Quilter? Anybody know this brand?

The Quilter bass block showed in a few back lines I've used, I dug them. One was paired with a SVT 8/10 cab and it killed! Nice no-nonsense amps!

I've owned the Bass Block 800. Great little amp! For the size and money, it packs a lot of power. EQ on the BB800 is quirky, but yours is the 802 which is more straight-forward in EQ controls.

For me, the tone was too neutral, I prefer the amp to have some voice and character. Switched to Mesa Subway, never looked back.

I never got to work with their instrument amps. But I did get a chance to demo their Bass Block 800, and I was really impressed with it. I’ve also previously owned and am very familiar with the power amps they market under their QSC sister brand. And those amps are world class. I’d rank them above Crown and Yamaha for PA and FOH applications.

It's one of my favorite amps of all time. In the 'clean' family, I think it has a lot of heft and authority, there's something in the dynamics that reminds me of tube amps (but cleaner)

I gigged the BB800 for a few years with a jazz combo for low volume gigs, though it could punch. It’s great for upright, too. But I figured out for those gigs I could get what I needed from the smaller, 45W Quilter Bass Interblock, so sold mine. The Interblock is great, too, and the eq is more standard.

For my other gigs… Mesa.

I stood next to a docked 802 during an outdoor gig where the bassist from the band that opened for us was using one at decent volume. It was monstrous sounding.

I only know about Quilter and its founder because of TB! Loads of good information on the Block 800, 802 and the bass dock cabinets. I’ve only played the 800 - it has gobs of power and the eq is rather effective, assuming you like the inherent tone of your bass as it doesn’t allow for precise eq-ing. The 802 is more precise. The bass docks always intrigued me as they seem like an evolution in the Mesa Walkabout design. I think most Quilter stuff is US-built, too.

I have the BB800 and it is a great amp. If you ever meet someone dogging class D for not having enough “slam” they should try this amp. Like a sledgehammer in the best possible way.

I've had an 800 and an 802. 4 of the last 6 guitarists I've played with used their guitar amps.

Reliable, great voicing and (hate to break it to you) quite well known to most experienced players.

I had a BB800 for several years. Solid amp. Great power in a compact lightweight setup. Ultimately, I did not need the power or portability. Sold it and bought an Ampeg PF50T.

I still have a Pro Block 200 with a pair of Block Dock 10TC cabinets for electric guitar. Do not use them much since I do not play electric much, but it is a solid incredibly lightweight setup.

I have a Quilter amp (BB800) and I love it. I bought it when my Markbass fried. The EQ section of mine is very effective but you actually have to think about it.

If you have ever heard of QSC who makes lots of pro audio gear for many years, i think it stands for "Quilter Sound Company" or something like that. So they have been around for a long time.

My favorite store has this used Quilter combo. It is 450w as a 1x12 combo and 800w with an extension cabinet. I did not make a video, but I think it sounds great. It has a ton of bottom, but is also bright, with lots of clarity, just like I like it. It is pretty expensive for a used combo. It think it is small batch/boutique. I would love to hear from anybody who has experience with this brand.

$900 is the asking price. I may lay it away. The power of that combo could really be useful. It sounds like a much bigger rig.

That’s a good but not outrageously good price. The heads usually sell used for about 500. I don’t have any experience with the speaker cabinets, but I would imagine it would be a very good combo.

I wanna throw one thing out to you, Doc.
As I recall, you play church. My only negative experience with the Quilter was fan noise.
Maybe others can chime in but I felt the fan on the BB800 was very noisy for a quiet environment.

I have a BB800 and it’s pretty much with me on most of my shows as a back up or my main.. It’s a small portable great sounding reliable piece of gear.
There should be a new release soon for an updated version.

I bought a BB800 to have a small and lightweight backup head. After I bought it it didn't make sense to haul my SVT anymore. Can't attest to the cab. You will probably like it, Cheese, as it has very little voicing and just pushes out whatever you put in it loud and clean. Great headroom. The eq is more of a live show utility type than a tone sculptor, but the newer ones have a more robust eq than the version 1. I found the need for overdrive pedals as well, because it is too clean, if you believe in such things. My only complaint is that the DI level is affected by the master, which for me necessitates a seperate DI so I don't jump the FOH signal if (when) I have to nudge up my cab cuz my boy starts heating up the glass in his Marshall.

I play an amp supplied by the church during service. This amp would be used at home and anytime I played outside of church (which has been very rare the last few years.)
