Quilter Bass Block v803

Has anyone used the 803 XLR out with an IEM rig yet?
My band runs an IEM rig and I am reluctant to bring out the 803 on gigs until I figure out exactly what the whole: XLR Out employs some mysterious cab sim setting on the XLR DI when "Warm and "QTube" settings are enabled is all about. I know from past experiences that I do NOT like cab sims running at all when using IEM's.
Not just for in-ears, but for sends to the house in general. I usually use a "pre" setting and give the house an unaffected signal. Having a "cab sim" added to Warm and Qtube XLR out may accomplish Quilter's sonic goals, but isn't it the equivalent of a fixed "post" send to the house, including my EQ choices? Would this flummox my normally patient sound tech? Am I missing something? …or just needlessly concerned?

Great points. I was stopping at the IEM rig (Assuming that my regular Sound Engineer's could handle the FOH just fine) but you bring up yet another interesting thing which is that theoretically my SE's are going to have to work to "Undo" whatever the cab sim is doing. My understanding is that the 803 doesn't have any ability to send unaffected to XLR. Basically clean Post Pre is the "Modern" voice and then the "Warm" and Qtube" are post Pre AND adding some form of cab sim. In my case it's not a huge deal because I run the Sushi Box Finally Tube DI as the last pedal on my board so I can run off the XLR of that to my IEM Rig & FOH and then send the 1/4" out to my amp setup. However, if I wasn't already running a DI post effects and pre amp then I would have to add one.

Yes. From the manual: "Signal level is approximately -6dB, and will contain all the preamp's tone and breakup (if used)."

For me, it's just a logical design choice when you want to make a small and lightweight amp, you have to remove what you think isn't mandatory. You can't please everyone.

IME, each time a sound tech wanted to use my "pre" signal, he lent me one of his DI box, so it's not an issue for me.

At least, the DI out is now taken before the master knob. With the BB800, it was taken after, and it caused several issues.

So I'm fine with what they implemented: if the FOH wants my "pre" signal, they're going to lend me a DI box, and if they want to capture the tone of my amp, it should be taken after the preamp stage.

Agree. Also, I know it's not for everyone (per the above discussion), but I usually send my signal post anyway on my Mesa amps because it sounds so good. I get why a FOH engineer wouldn't like that, so I usually just don't tell them ;-)

I love it, but it's pretty funny. I also got a "first 100", but alas no voucher or patch. I can't believe I didn't bring my bass in.

I agree also. It's just worth pointing out. The sound techs who really care hand me a box anyway. So it goes :). Actually I am curious what those "Sims" sound like in a big system.

Where did I miss in Manual that Cab Sim is added to XLR out in Warm or Qtube settings? It mentions with features on Website that Headphone out you get Cab Sim

Anyway isn't Cab Sim[IR] meant for FRFR FOH Systems [and headphones/recordings]?

But if added on any Amp I would prefer an off switch
It's on pages 6-7 of the manual, in the gray shaded areas.

I wouldn't want any undefeatable cab Sims at all; I spent a lot of time and money to obtain bass cabs whose sound I prefer with my basses, and wouldn't want to change their sound by default.

The cab sims on the 803 are only on the XLR out, and only on the warm and Qtube settings. So you wouldn't be getting any sim running to your cabs from the amp. And could get an EQ-only feed to FOH on the modern setting.

I think some of you overthink the cab sim.

- It's only present in the DI out and headphones,
- it's not applied to the "Modern" voice…
- I'm sure it's soft

and I trust them - if they add the cab sim to the DI and headphone out for the "Warm" and "Qtube" voices, I'm sure it's more musical.

Maybe you should try it before you make up your mind?

Exactly - and the idea is to simulate how your speaker sounds with warm or qtube engaged. If you don't want it, you use modern (or a DI box). Net/net feature add and no subtraction.
