Quilter Bass Block v803

I have a 1x15 from the now defunct Sinobas. Has a Kappalite 3015LF.
Hi, I'm just curious about what your opinion is on the 803…I'm a big fan of your playing and demos on the Rev Sound cabs site. Sucks it took a week to get to you, but hopefully you've had some opportunities to gig with it by now. I'd definitely appreciate anything you might care to impart concerning your experiences with this amp. Thanks!
Hey - I think it sounds great with my RS112. Very clear and punchy. LOTS of headroom for active OR passive basses. Tone controls work fine, tho I usually leave them flat for the most part.
Your rig is dark sounding due to the choice of woofer. The 3015LF was meant to be used with a mid range driver too.
The standard 3015 is what you really want for a single driver solution.
I don't think it's the standard model, Javier said it was custom voiced, but I would have to remove the speaker to confirm anything. It does the job for my current group, but combined with the ampeg, it's even darker. It's easier for me to sell or trade the ampeg than to sell or trade a cabinet from a defunct company.
If you have the 3015 I doubt you would have issues as I've used that driver with a few Ampeg heads with no hi freq. issues.
The LF version rolls off hi freqs. purposely.
Not my opinion but the speaker specifications.

Agree, the 3015 (HO) is a fairly bright speaker by 15"driver standards.
They have a peak in the 1.5k-2kHz region that some like and some don't.
I think the 'HO' was one of the 3012 family of drivers.

Internally, the HO was originally used for the 10, 12 and 15, they then dropped the HO from the 15 when they switched from aluminum to copper voice coils on the 15HO, though it's still on my commercial docs.
HO is the lower mass cone and aluminum VC wire, which remain on the 10 and 12. The KL3015 uses the lighter cone but with a slightly shorter copper VC winding. The LF use a heavier cone and copper VC. There are other differences too.
The LF has the peak at a lower frequency and considerably mid less extension.
I'm looking to get one of these, along with the Quilter Bass Cabinet 1x12, but I don't see it around anymore?
What other bass cabs are people here using that pair well with them? Looking to keep weight at 30 lbs or below, lighter the better.

I would look at the GK Neo IV 112 unless you have enough money for one of the Barefaced 12" (SC, SC-T, BB3).
Less money - RevSound RS112 or RS112T.
But there are a lot of good 1x12's out there.
I'm using a Barefaced Super Compact (21.5lbs with a cloth grill or 23.5lbs with a steel grill).
It's a bit pricey but it sounds great.
Other options include:
- GR Bass (even the wooden version is under 30 lbs)
- Markbass
- Warwick (the cheapest)
- Darkglass
- Aguilar
- Ampeg Venture
- Orange
I use Phil Jones Bass and I'm never looking back! And god knows I have played lots of brands and types.
Why?
- They sound awesome, warm, deep yet articulate.
- They are exceptionally well built (USA)
- They have a small 'footprint'
- They are not the lightest, but due to their volume easy to handle
- They are not the lightest, so they sound heavy*
- They are front ported and thus give you a direct kick in the ...

It is my personal experience that lightweight cabs sound 'lightweight'. I have never come across a lightweight cab that gave me that good deep bass sound. Just my two cents...
I've seen a few reviews of the V803 that were sort of negative with regards to the amp's headroom or lack thereof. I may have missed this comparison in the thread and if so, I apologize. When using the Modern setting of the V803 does does the power section perform in a comparable manner to the BB 800? I'm aware that the Warm & Q-Tube settings change things so at this point I'm primarily concerned with how the V803 in the Modern setting compares to the BB 800....
I've said it already - simple - BB803 with modern setting, normal input and all EQ knobs at noon = BB800 with all EQ knobs at noon
And, I obviously missed when you said it. My apologies. I don't normally do a LOT of amp tweaking as long as I can get what I need from the controls on my bass or outboard preamp. It sounds like you are implying that straying away from noon while using the Modern setting can have a significant impact on the headroom. That could be a problem and is definitely a cause for consideration. I've got the BB800 and have given thought to replacing it with the V803....
