Quilter Bass Block

I've cranked mine at soundchecks just to scare the horses and then then bring the master down to not obliterate the mix. I can't recall a single sound person who wasn't extremely impressed with my tiny rig... volume, tone, stage and room fill... it's all there.

When I test drove one of these through an ampeg 8x10 with my darkstar bass...it was shear lunacy...clear loud bass, the guys int he store were even smiling more than usual. They hadn't thought to try that. Through my 2x12 its full and round...loving it so far...demos this weekend.

Really liked what I heard out of the BassBlock last night, but the XLR out on the amp has no signal.

So the question is: use as is (a DI box pre input) or return this one to Guitar Center?

Other than the DI, the amp sounds great and looks like new, and I got a really great deal on it...

Contact Quilter as well.
They're really good about responding to emails, and they support their product well.
They might be able to do something.

I use active basses with Bartolini pre amps with the internal gains almost cranked and volume controls full on and I don't experience this. My basses are hotter than most 18v setups I've heard. Doesn't sound at all compressed.
This was your original post.
It wasn't my intention to give you a lesson about compression. I was just trying to help.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You should look at my response in context. You wrote:
"The "click" comes from the BB800 built-in limiter squashing the signal beyond threshold. Using the passive input with an active bass (or preamp) sends a hot signal that triggers the compression easier compared to the active input which is padded. Some people do that on purpose because it sounds good, I've done it for a while and even get rid of my compressor pedal, but eventually ended up using the active input with preamps.
About preamps, I'm in the market for a tube preamp so I'll post some questions in the dedicated topics, feel free to post your suggestions there or here, since I'm planning to run the preamp straight into my BB800".

My point was that the "click" is easily avoidable IME even with hot basses into the passive input. That's how I run mine.

His response did not seem aghast at my mention of taking a look under the hood-but I had mentioned some of my other tech work, so he might have been reassured by that.
All i could tell him about is all the wonderful stuff i disassembled when i was younger and never figured out how to reassemble. My father was not pleased with that particular “talent”

False alarm!
Must have been a bad XLR cable, thought I’m not sure why it worked with the passive DI box and not the Quilter.

(My guess is an intermittent connection in the cable that was under tension up on top of my cab, and made contact when the DI box was down on the ground)

Anyhow, Pat Quilter personally responded to my inquiry, and gave GREAT troubleshooting advice.

He’s a class-act + the amp kicked A$$ at my show last night= this amp is staying put!
