Quilter Bass Block

So i had an issue come up with my Quilter the other night, and I am sending it back in (yay for warranties!), but wanted to throw this up the flagpole:
I played a set with my Quilter into my fEarful 12/6, and everything was fine. I came back for the second set, and I had lost volume. Big time. Both on stage and at FOH.
I doublechecked my bass and my board, plugged straight into the head, just in case. No difference.
I cranked the volume on the head and made it through, but where the knobs ended up, if it were working properly, would've been absolutely blowing up the stage.
The next night I try it again at a different venue, with a different bass.
Same thing.
I use a spare head to confirm that it's not the cab, but I don't know what's going on.
Like I said, i'm sending it back to them for repair, and we'll see what they say.
Just curious if anyone has any ideas how this might happen.

Quilter just raised their prices across the entire product line!

In my opinion, the BB800 is still a great deal at $649. :)

For a made in the USA monster, it's still a bargain IMO. Not going to pretend I like price increases but if I were in the market today I'd still buy one in a heartbeat.

Just checked ebay, still some available for as low as $560.

I hope no one takes my “Boo!” as snarky...I was only trying to impersonate someone on the sidelines in a Monty Python like manner. I can’t blame Quilter for upping the price a little because nothing worthwhile is cheap. They got my business years ago when I bought my BB800 and I’d buy again at $649 because I love the quality of this amp. Plus, Pat Quilter built his first bass amp the year that I was born...crazy to think how much a BB800 would have cost in ‘67

No reason to charge more...
Labor and component pricing isn't a factor?

I distinctly remember a post in one of the bass block threads outlining that these were being made in the QSC factory and at some point alternative manufacturing arrangements would need to be looked at. Or something along those lines at least. I'd say there's plenty going on that could impact pricing that we have no idea about.

Exactly, I mean, Netflix just raised their prices (for example).

Quilter's "incubator" deal with QSC is ending and they are transitioning to their own manufacturing. Maybe selling off the existing inventory at a slightly higher price is helping to raise the capital for the next phase of the company's future. At least they didn't raise the price AND change the manufacturing to China at the same time!

I also heard a rumour somewhere that Pat Quilter is working for free. I hope that's not true, but if it is, I am happy to pay any additional upcharge to see that he's properly compensated. :)

No. Labor and component pricing isn't a factor in this case, and I'll try to explain to you why.
Labor has been estimeed and priced when they released the amp. They decided the price, not me or you.
Components? Since there's nothing about a change in components in Quilter's website, I guess all the components are the same, right? If they changed/upgraded components and/or the usual components became more expensive (which is possible), they should post that on their website and social media, exactly how Dr. Z made a while ago, if I remember correctly.
I love my BB800 to death and I respect Quilter's work, but you'll never hear me saying that since I love a piece of gear so much the manufacturer is allowed to charge more for the same item. Never.
In case of a V2 or one of the cases I mentioned, there's nothing wrong with that.

Who said anything about a change in components? How would you or I or anyone else know if Quilter's suppliers have changed the price on anything that Quilter purchases?? Maybe they had to change supplier for a component because a company they were buying from stopped supplying? What about currency exchange that might have changed the pricing of parts into Quilter??

For all I know, none of what I have mentioned may have happened. I am speculating....because I don't know. You are speaking with such confidence like you know without a doubt that they have absolutely no reason to increase price, but the cold harsh reality is that you don't know any more than the rest of us. You don't know the intimate details of how Quilter operates, so stop pretending to.

No one likes a price rise, me included. We don't know the reasons behind it.

We're both speculating, I don't know ANYTHING about change in components or anything else, that's pretty clear if you read my message. I'm not speaking with any confidence, english isn't even my native language. Just read my message again.

Perhaps you should reread your messages before posting.

This is what you've written "No. Labor and component pricing isn't a factor in this case, and I'll try to explain to you why"

In no way does that sound like you are speculating.

Labour and component costs change due to inflation and currency fluctuations. Everyone has a right to change pricing to reflect these realities. Consumers have a right to buy or not depending whether they feel it's worth it.

PS, as an early adopter in Europe I paid a lot more than 555 euros and think it was worth every penny.

Like it or not, most electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, connectors) are made in China.
Same with a lot of electronic assemblies and other parts - the cooling fan, knobs, potentiometers, rubber feet -- all made in China.

The Bass Block is made/assembled in the USA, so with tariffs between 10 percent and 25 percent in effect between the US and China, that WILL drive up the cost of the parts that comprise this amp, which gets passed on to us as a price increase.

The Bass Block was $599, and now it's $649 - that's an 8.3% increase.
Given the increased costs, I don't think the price increase is unjustified.

I was happy to pay less for it, but I still think the value and performance is VERY high for the price.

Also the US and China started a trade war (and that's all I'll say about that topic, to avoid talking politics) just about the same time as Quilter transitioned their manufacturing to China. I can imagine the high tariffs and red tape have been a headache.

But here's a silver lining: There has never been a better time to buy used Quilter's, with used prices generally not reflecting the recent increase. Great time to buy a 2nd one and have a spare! :)
