Quilter Bass Block

When I used the Genz Benz Streamliner, there was a sweet thread here with everyone's favorite settings. I switched to the Quilter because I realized I'm not a knob twiddler. The less options the better. Quilter and P bass.

So how does everyone set the BB800 knobs? Most places I've been playing lately we bring our own PA so I play thru my two LDS 210 cabs. BB800 is set:
GAIN: 6.5
DEPTH: Two notches to the right
CONTOUR: Three notches to the left
VOLUME: Usually up past the 40 watt line

Playing my P Bass with GZR pickups, the tone is nice and thick. Maybe adjust the bass a click left or right depending on the place, but I use the Diamond Bass Compressor for more subtle adjustments.

So what's everyone doing? I want to try em out!

I have mine almost the same as yours :) Gain at about 6, depth up 2 notches, contour down 2 notches, master to suit. In the video below with no PA support it was at 160watts.
Barefaced Big Baby cabs
Usually a P Bass or a Zon Sonus import

Stick some headphones on and have a listen here....

I have one of these awesome little 1/2 rack units, and have always liked the sound of it. Might try running it in the line in line out of the BB800. Sits very neatly on top of the BB.

It's like a game of where's Wally, was looking for a minute to find the Quilter!

Yeah, I started doing that with previous heads because for some events I sit on the cab. I don't need to tweak but I easily could from that position.

My favorite rig ever. It would probably take some alien technology to top it.
:D

Huh-oh, looks like someone's about to get their daiquiri involuntarily stirred!

Twice this weekend I had people ask about my amp placement. In one instance, before I could answer, they smiled and said: "because it'll vibrate off". No one seems to expect the actual reason why I did it. And no, it never vibrated off when I sat it on top.

Same gig, as I was being escorted to the band room before the show, carrying my big as all getout Fodera Anthony Jackson Contrabass six, I was asked "what do you play?". It turned out that she also played bass and mentioned she had a Precision, she was wondering what kind of bass mine was. The question was funny... for a second.

Mine is pretty boring: Gain at 10-11 o'clock, Depth 12, Contour 12, Master for the room... I've been loud enough at 40w, highest I've had it on a gig or soundcheck was 160.

I rotate over a dozen basses and they all kill with these settings. They're all hot active basses and I only use the passive input. XLR out to the board though frankly I'd prefer to carry the load on stage and in the house in many cases. Just had a gig where the soundguy had four 18" subs and insisted on keeping that over top of my stage volume which was very annoying. I don't need help from subs.

I did enquire about buying a chassis with no t-nuts so I could use stickier feet to keep the amp from sliding. Pat got back to me with why the feet are mounted as they are.

The studs that mount the feet were required by UL in order to prevent the
possibility of aftermarket screws poking too far in and shorting out high
voltage circuitry. The studs have a closed-back, so they only accept short
6-32 screws.”

Ok, fair enough. Use softer, stickier feet then. I could put a rubbery mat between amp and cab but it’s one more thing to remember and to stuff in an already overloaded gigbag.I figure anyone capable of building an amp this good is capable of finding OEM feet that work better. I don’t recall having this issue with the class D Genz, Aguilar, Mesa or GK heads I’ve had.....

Guys, how do you set your volume?

Last saturday I've tried the Quilter at my band reharsal (thrash/death/groove metal stuff played in B standard) and hooked the Quilter through an Ampeg 410hlf.
I've set the master around 160 (maybe 1 or 2 click right), and gain at 2-3 or 5 depending on pickup selection (bass with EMGTW splittable pickups). Deapth and Countour both at noon (at first. Then Depth halfway counterclockwise for a great low cut)

As I said with master at 160w the cab seemed to fart, even if it's rated 500w 4ohms... What could I have done wrong? Wrong approach to set volume?

PS: forgot to mention I plugged the bass in the active input.

I plug into the passive input no matter the bass. I find it makes a huge tonal difference.

I use my input at either 12 noon or around 9 oclock, depending if I want compression or not. then master volume to taste. It's quite beefy through just about anything.
