quitting smoking?

Quit smoking two years ago after 35 years of smoking a minimum 1.5 packs per day. For those who think going to "alternative roll-your-own" products is a good idea, the tar levels in the "alternative" products is way, way worse than regular cigs, plus being constantly "blurry" is not a cool way to enhance your life.

You have to want to quit, or it won't work ........

Congratulations...but thats insane. I could never carry cigs around. Throw those nasty things away before you lose you 9 smoke free days.
On the contrary, I believe if I want to qit, I have to stop around temptation. Being around them all the time(not to mention I can smoke at my job) has made the temptation well none. Drinking I didn't nic or nothing. Quite proud of this. I must say since I stopped, my lungs have been sore, maybe from that oxygen thing being in them

Hey, to each his own...I just think thats way too close for comfort.

It was so hard for me, I had to stay away from anything that even reminded me of smoking for the first few weeks.

How long do you put weight on after you quit.

Man I am a small guy, could use a few pounds, but it is starting to get out of control. In less then two weeks I am already getting nice stretch marks and my eating is up I'd say at least 3 or 4 times my usual amount. I know it is common but does this continue or is food just another addiction I will have to control? Mind you I am 5"11 and between 130 and 135lbs when I quit. No scale here but I know I have put on over 5 already this last week

I put on about 10 lbs since I quit. It takes a few months for your body to adjust to the change. I think part of that adjusting period is gaining back some of the weight you would've had if you didn't smoke. Granted I'm approcahing 30, and gaining weight might be more common for me than for somone younger.

I'd start excersizing now if your concerned about it. This way your ahead of the curve, no pun intended.

I should've mentioned this earlier...hypnosis.

My friends dad was a heavy, 2+ pack a day smoker. He was also a psychiatrist. He arranged to go see a hypnotist, cost him a bunch of money. Came back, had absolutely no interest or craving in them whatsoever. Worked so well it really freaked my friend out.

Because of his job he probably had the connections, but I bet that if you went to a shrink or something they could hook it up. Just don't write it off, it's worth looking into.

Edit: 43% burnt, your new title/avatar is awesome!

i had this problm, but now i'm past it.

everything changed when these commercials came on tv w/ fingers w/ faces painted on them w/ cigarettes ganging from their mouths. the ads always end w/ one of them saying, "But you're A finger."

So then i saw the light and will never smoke again

i think it;s just a local thing

I don't know if this thread is a blessing or a curse....

I just quit smoking monday....on my way back from vacation in indianapolis.

I smoke(d) cloves. The fact that people like the smell and associate their smell with me was one of the factors that I knew would be troublesome.

The fact that me and my girlfriend are both deciding to go back to school and are starting our paperwork and what-not is really what is going to do me in though....

I'm feeling very unpleasant

I'm on day 6, and I've smoked at least 15/day for about 15 years. I've been meaning to quit for quite a while, and my wife and I have been talking about it a lot lately. New kid and all, I don't want to be a bad influence, or dead, etc. Well I got a head start ...

Last Sunday I woke up with what I thought was the worst hangover I've ever had. Turns out it was either food poisoning, or some kinda stomach virus - puking and the other end for 3 days. That was the first 3 days which were easy not to smoke, all of which were spent either clutching my painful stomach on the couch, or on the toilet! The last 3 I've been at work which have been not as hard as I might have thought, but I've been especially busy since I missed 2 days this week so the time's gone by quicker.

So far so good, and I'm gonna stick to it this time.

Also, I've got this thing on my wall that lists all the poison in cigarrette smoke from the Canadian Cancer Society that helps to look at every once in a while. It's titled "What's Your Poison?":

Acetone, Naphthylamine, Methanol, Pyrene, Dimethylnitrosamine, Napthalene, Cadmium, Carbon Monoxide, Benzopyrene, Vinyl Chloride, Hydrogen Cyanide, Toluidine, Ammonia, Urethane, Toluene, Arsenic, Debenzacridine, Phelol, Butane, DDT, Polonium-210.
9 of which are known cancer causing substances.

Good Luck to me and everybody else out there trying to quit.

Way to go!:bassist:

It will be one of the best choices you've ever made. I know thats certainly the case for me.

You know what I’ve noticed... I think people who smoke usually have mental illness... this is only way I can explain my parents being sick as hell coughing their lungs out... blowing their nose every 5secs and still going outside standing in the rain and cold have a smoke every 10-20 minutes... mental illness is only thing I can come out with...
