quitting smoking?

anyone else doing this? ive cut back a lot but eventually i want to quit completely...

anyone have any tips? i dont want to use the patch or anything like that, id like to just quit

I smoked a pack of Marlboro Reds a day for over 10 years. My dad was a pack-a-day smoker for over 40 years. He is also a behavioral psychologist and came up with a method that seems a little strange, but worked like a charm for him and for me. And I was not even interested in quitting when I tried his method.

It took me about 3 months - no money, no drugs, no patches, no nothin' 'cept personal commitment not to cheat on the method. 3 month later, I smoked my last red, crumpled the pack and have never gone back. I was able to sit right next to folks smoking away and was never tempted and to this day I know I will never smoke another cigarette as long as I am breathing.

He has a really basic website that explains his method complete with data, pictures of experiements, charts and graphs... Go check it out. I can tell you from personal experience, conquering your smoking habit leads to bigger and better things!

Good luck!

Damn, I need to quit. I tried once before, lasted about a month. Then one night I got bored, was watching a movie where there was a lot of smoking, and I took a cig. Both my parents smoke, and I live at home, so I can't escape it. My girlfriend hates that I smoke, and I hate it to. I have 5 cigs left in this pack. After that I will give it another go. I am going to make it this time.

Throw the rest of the pack away.

I had 80% of a pack left on saturday... I got sick of it. I left them where i was at, and walked away.

I'm doing pretty good... I bummed one after work yesterday, though.

I was done with it long time ago. :)

Tips... hmmm just stop... you have to just not want to smoke anymore and you will be fine. You will cough like hell but then your lungs will clean up and you will feel much better then before. After that anytime you want to smoke just remember how much better it feels not to.

I personally just got bored of smoking one day and just stopped with no reasons. Haven’t smoked since and really don’t want to either. I am only talking about cigs though.

Good luck, although if you really just quit you wont need it, only people who need luck with quitting are ones that really don’t want to quit, if you are not one of them you won’t have a problem

Cheers

My cousin and his buddy made a bet for both of them to quit smoking. The bet was that the loser had to make a sandwich board that said 'I am a pathetic loser who could not quit smoking' and wear it while walking around downtown Toronto all day. They both lost. My cousin got in the paper though, it was hilarious!

Bassguitar, you didn't happen to see them did you?

Smoked a pack or more a day for 16 years along with herb on a regular basis...Never thought i would quit either. Jan 1 06 dropped em both and havent looked back. Well worth it. I feel much better and have a LOT more money to spend on bass gear and my wife. Just do it... cold turkey.

I smoked my last cigarette on january 4th. Quiting smoking is the best thing I have done in a long time. I feel realy proud of myself. I also did'nt drink a drop of alcohol for a little over a month and I think that made it easier to quit smoking.

Recently, I've started smoking again, but before this stupid decision, I was going 3 years strong....

Got frustrated with it... I was smoking cause of the dependancy, not because I wanted to...
I just crumpled up the pack, half full, and went one day at a time (cliché, I know, but it works...) and before I knew it, I just didnt have the cravings anymore.

just the first week...
thats the hardest. reember, if you get desperate for one, just think of something else... if you have even a drag, nicotine is fresh in your sistem and you're starting from scratch again.

good luck mate.
