quiz for effects'ians : help please

heya folks,

this is sorta giving me a fit, trying to figure it out. it's a digital distortion, sounds like old 8 bit video game type stuff, it's from the 2nd trailer to tron : legacy, at 2:00 in - the saturated digital synthy distortion effect. (daft punk doing the sound track and supposedly appearing in it as mp3 programs heh, gonna be a cool movie).



any ideas on the effect being used? probably software vst's, but anybody have an idea on a pedal that might do that?

The bass-bit fuzz sounds like a bluebox clone to me.

I'd look into a real bit-crusher for those tones.

Sounds like a bit shifter/sample reducer to me -- there's a lot of the original signal intact. It might also be a ring mod or a Moog Freqbox.

It's totally overkill, but the WMD Geiger Counter will do this without even touching the wavetables. The Catalinbread Heliotrope should do it as well. I have no experience with them (and all the demo vids suck), but the Copilot Antenna and Antenna2 are billed as bit crushers, so they might work.

Oh, and another one you can do it with is a Copilot Orbit. Great synthy sputter fuzz, and from what I remember of it, very controllable with some practice.

i've just discovered this pedal, and i totally love it. given my own penchant for overkill, i think i may have to score one of these.

i also like the expression control of the hexe bitcrusher 3 that i heard.

oh man. that's pretty awesome-sounding. too bad it doesn't have expression pedal-ability for some of the pots.
