I remember meeting Rocco . I told him he was an inspiration and that I've probably played What is Hip over 300 hundred times. He smiled and said "where's my check"? Lol
Oh yeyeah! That track is covered on Breakestra's: Live Mix Tape, vol 2. I highly recommend checking it out. It's a band lead by bass player, MilesTackett, and is presented in the way a DJ would play a set; live mixes without breaks in between songs. It makes for a really enjoyable album to listen to, plus Tackett lays down some killer P bass grooves.
Here are a couple easy-but-greasy ones that don't get called much, but that are fun to play:

Well I am just one of the funkiest. FUNK music is the music I choose to play. Just like guys go to music school and study jazz all those years. I feel that way about funk and playing funk electric bass. To me it's just as good and just as genious. And people can dance to it.

check out tommy cogbill on wilson pickett,dusty springfield anything recorded in the late 60's and 70's in american studios. tommy played a 1960 precesion through a fender twin with only one speaker. He invented the funky bass part on pickett's funky broadway In my opinion as funky a bass player as dunn,jemmott and Babbitt.
