^Definitely The Meters. Most of these tunes are fairly easy technically, but just putting' the notes where they belong won't get you there; these grooves are slinky and greasy!
*Any James Brown, JB's, Maceo Parker
*Can't go wrong with Motown and Stax (Greatest hits would do the trick here, and while you're at it check out some Booker T & the MG's).
That should get you started. You can always Google "must have" or "top r&b and funk albums/songs" for a nice variety, and see what you dig.

Funly Broadway. The Wilson Pickett Version. Otis redding version and most stankily Dyke and the Blazers. I recommend listening to most of Dyke and the Blazers. For more modern cutting of notes. Joe Quarterman, I got so much trouble in my mind. Get wit these and you'll be the funkiest guy in your negihborhood. . James Brown--Sou Power. I got a million of them. The song it's a shame the way you mess around with your men. Ain't no stoppin us now.

Not so much about managing as it is about loving playing the bass. the songs I suggested are jamming and it will be easy to learn and enjoy them. Just try to internalize the syncopated funky feel the bass man is laying down bettwen his left anf right hands. These songs are for development and pleasure. The others you''re getting paid to learn and know
I would also recommend Conrad Lozano of Los Lobos. Not all blues but some truly fabulous grooves that exhibit a graceful sense of time and space.
