Something about her death strikes me as very sad and poignant. I've never listened to her music, although I meant to, just never got around to it. The stories I'd seen about her in the press just gave me the impression that she was yet another over the top, crazy, excessive celebrity that I've already seen too many of. She did seem to have a certain spark somehow though that the others didn't. That may have possibly been the very thing that drove her to abuse herself in such a manner, I guess we'll never really know. Very sad. R.I.P., fellow musician.

Very sad news. I've long admired her singing and writing talent. She also introduced me, and probably many others, to the DapTones and Sharon Jones and then to many other new soul acts.

The direction this thread has taken is heartless.

I was not a Winehouse fan, but I have a high regard for her work. I think she was a musician with more talent in her little finger than many of us have in our entire bodies. You are welcome to disagree with this.

She struggled with addiction and it finally beat her. She had many things that I would once have dreamed of and she lost it all, more or less at the same age as my eldest child.

It makes me feel incredibly sad, particularly when I look at how she changed as she lost her battle with drugs. The contrast between the sassy, sexy lady in the link I posted earlier from 2003 (Mr Magic) vs the out-of-control wreck at her last concert in Serbia is heart-wrenching to me. I would use the word tragic, but I don't want to concern those whose main response to this death is to have a war of dictionaries.

I don't use illegal drugs, I don't smoke and I don' get drunk. However I have known people who struggled with addiction, and it is a terrible and debilitating thing. I have my own weaknesses, faults and demons, and I just happen to be lucky that they are not life-threatening. The fact that her death was a result of choices she made doesn't make it a cause for celebration to me. I don't understand how anyone who has failed at some point can be harsh on others for their failures.

I feel for her parents and those who knew her as a person. If by some quirk they read this thread, I would like to express my sympathy, and also my gratitude for the beautiful music Amy left us. Not that the comments of a stranger on the internet mean much, but it's all I can do.

Let me help you TRY to understand. Talented woman who's life was a mess for so very long, dies from a probably overdose of drugs which she had been known for abusing, as much as her songwriting.

That's tragic.

And her parents getting her into rehab many times, now have no daughter.

That's tragic.

That her fans no longer can see her.

That's tragic.

That people like you need to be explained what's tragic about her death.

No, my opinion, as well as yours, and everyone else's mean absolutely nothing. Why you would think anyone's opinions of anything they are not in some way qualified to speak on are worth anything is beyond me. My opinion is only as useful as you want to make it relevant to yourself, and in 99% of cases, opinions from random people on the internet are worthless.

In that case, I'll change my statement.
I'm having a hard time seeing what is sad about this.

Amy Winehouse chose to let drugs kill her. It's obviously sad in some ways, for example, as you have pointed out, for her parents who have lost a daughter, or her fans that have lost a great musician, however, the situation itself is what she chose.

Actually, they wrote the music (obviously) - she wrote the lyrics herself.
