I'm having a hard time understanding why so many consider this tragic.
Well, because it's pretty much the textbook definition of "tragedy".
Tragedy - A drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a tragic flaw, moral weakness, or inability to cope with unfavorable circumstances.

Most people with drug and or alcohol problems say no to rehab.
She just happened to write a song about it.
During the last couple of years I've thought multiple times like "girl, get your act together". Now that she's gone I'm realizing that it doesn't work like that. Addiction is basically an illness, just like anorexia and depression are.. She just couldn´t help herself. Rest in Peace.

Now, on the other hand, I am not very familiar with Amy Winehouse, so if anyone can present evidence that she had expressed interest in getting help with her drug problems, I am open to change my opinion.

Let me help you TRY to understand. Talented woman who's life was a mess for so very long, dies from a probably overdose of drugs which she had been known for abusing, as much as her songwriting.
That's tragic.
And her parents getting her into rehab many times, now have no daughter.
That's tragic.
That her fans no longer can see her.
That's tragic.
That people like you need to be explained what's tragic about her death.
That's tragic.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I saw the report on CNN this morning and when I Google it, this link hit first.
That thought came to me too sometime yesterday.
I doubt it very much though since,according to reports,she saw her GP the night before the day she was found dead.
I have a hard time finding her death tragic. The only reason anyone even considers using that word is because she was so talented.
While it is of course unfortunate and a shame that she's dead and did this to herself, the woman was a junkie, plain and simple. She had every single opportunity to help herself and clean herself up. She acted like it was cute, in fact, she bragged that she wasn't going to stop. She bought a bottle of vodka and downed it on her way to rehab. I find it hard to see this as a tragic, inevitable would be a better way to describe it. Believe me, I think it's terrible that this happened and someone is now dead, but her own mother said she looked at her as dead already because she was bound to be anytime.

Some people commit suicide after seeing people close to them. Or attending so called special events.
Sometimes it's part of their closure in life before death.
Of course.
I just wish people would stop speculating assuming ( sometimes this sometimes that doesn't help anyone since in this case it goes without saying and just stirrs the pot).
Apparently the post mortem is today.
I won't post in this thread until the results are out I recon.

I think most people would feel a little for any young person who's death is from a similar scenario as Amy Winehouse.
And young people every day are in a very similar situation who may be just as talented but most of us would never know because they didn't get the chance to show the world their talent.
Talented -yes. Tragic loss - most definitely.
Ok.
It's humorous to me that you describe a situation that I would consider tragic while finding it hard to see. Inevitable IS a good way to describe it but I don't see how that lessens the tragic nature of her death. I especially like the part where you write about a mother who gets to talk about the death of her own daughter... how is that not tragic?
