R.I.P. Jess Oliver

Thanks everybody for their kind words. I know for a fact that the family is looking at everyone's post and feeling gratitude for everybody's well wishes.

Very sad indeed. One of my favorite moments was in the video of Jess listening to the dude from Manowar "shredding" on bass, and Jess says something to the effect of "if you played like that in my band, you would have gotten fired!"

He lived in my town, and I had always meant to try to get in touch with him and share a few words, but always put it off. Reach out to those around you, for you never know when they will no longer be there!

My condolences to the Oliver family. RIP Mr. Oliver. You are a hard act to follow. From all I've read and talked with others who worked with you in Linden and after you always did what was right. Not what was popular, but what was right. That takes a special person having the courage of your own convictions. For that and your wonderful contributions you will be remembered.

On behalf of everyone here on Talkbass, Thank you for taking a moment to check in with us. We are happy to see that his family can see how much everyone recognizes his contributions to our community as well as how much love we send out to his family and friends.

It is a true legacy that to this day the B-15 is still THE bass amp. His time in Linden here in NJ will always be a highlight of our states history, and the tri-state area will always be thankful that he chose to stay here.

Again, condolences and sympathies to the Oliver family.

RIP Jess Oliver,

I hope Ampeg continues to build the B-15 Portaflex. the Heritage was a brilliant move (and I'm glad I got one), but people are craving for an affordable & available version, how 'bout a "Jess Oliver Legacy B-15 Portaflex". with common tubes instead of NOS, PCB instead of PTP. a good, sturdy amp... basses for the masses.

RIP Jess Oliver - Godfather of bass amplification
