R.I.P music

I think it's funny that people everyone seems to be pointing out this music as the end of music, as if Ke$ha and Katy Perry have been coming out with meaningful music. I have yet to understand what makes this song any worse than anything else that has been playing on the radio.

False premise--no one implied those two were putting out meaningful music.

The other songs on the radio suck. This one sucks harder.

Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend

I am not saying this song doesn't suck, I am merely saying that if people are proclaiming this is the death of music, then it must have been alive before this song came out. The pop music scene that existed for the few years before this song came out have been dominated by lady gaga, katy perry, ke$ha, and the boy bands and whatnot who have been feeding us the same drivel long before this song was a twinkle in a producer's eye. This song is as bubblegum and disposable as tik tok, california gurls or heck, even Henry the 8th. This isn't news lol if anything, it's just that once a year or so song that comes out to lower our expectations so low so that pop artists can get worse and we don't notice because we are fixated on the "really bad one"

in what way? are they less auto-tuned than she is? did rebecca black write less of her music than katy perry did? Is Ke$ha's songs about getting drunk better than Rebecca Black's songs about partying on the weekend? I am not saying any of these singers are better than another, in fact I am saying just the opposite--none of them are better than any other. It's all disposible pop with the intention of selling a million singles, getting their money and moving one. My issue with the whole thing is that Black is getting singled out as the worst, when they all are equally forgettable.

For realz, yo. Heck, I actually like a lot of Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Lady Gaga music. It's really fun music to dance to when you're at a club and are grinding up on college girls who've decided that they wanna be your Teenage Dream, so they Take it Off for a little bit of a Bad Romance ;)

I always have to smile when TBers get upset about the "state of music" when the music in question is aimed at preteens. New Kids on the Block didn't kill music. Neither did N'sync (sp?) and neither will this. What it WILL do is move a lot of product to kids that don't know that it's schlock.

The last three videos I watched before clicking on this thread:

YouTube - James Blake - I'll Stay
YouTube - Mogwai - You're Lionel Richie

Not for everyone but to me these are examples of people who have and are moving music forward. Right now is a wonderful time to be a music fan. The barriers to entry in the record business are at an all time low. Anyone can record and promote their music freely and there is an immense amount of great stuff available. The hard part is doing the work to find the stuff that really moves you. But even that I enjoy.
