R.I.P music

Why wouldn't it be a hit? It has all the ingredients.

That's how I feel about it - it's like the producers took every element that goes into making a hit song, and threw them all in at once. Reminds me of recent Black Eyed Peas.

Jazz, funny thing is people have been this argument for the past 50 years. Sure the industry is a little more desperate these days, but this twit is working without the industry, and still getting ridiculous results...that it points to an incredible lack of taste in the listening public at large has nothing to do with the actual industry.

People have been writing truly inane crappy music forever.

No what really surprises me is that people get upset or outraged about it.
I mean, it's a damn pop song. It's not meant to change the World.
As long as you can sing along and dance, it's all good.
You can go a long way with meaningless lyrics, a riff and 4 chords.
YouTube - The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

At least that song portrayed some kind of an emotion...

And theres an awesome version of it being sung in German for an insta-win.

Bah, scale the summit released their last CD on the first of March, music isn't dead! :p

Funnily I bought one of their cd for the second time today because I wanted a physical copy and didn't want to burn myself one.

in what way? are they less auto-tuned than she is? did rebecca black write less of her music than katy perry did? Is Ke$ha's songs about getting drunk better than Rebecca Black's songs about partying on the weekend? I am not saying any of these singers are better than another, in fact I am saying just the opposite--none of them are better than any other. It's all disposible pop with the intention of selling a million singles, getting their money and moving one. My issue with the whole thing is that Black is getting singled out as the worst, when they all are equally forgettable.

They're music is awesome because I can jam to it in my car without being all hipster about it (herp, derp, I listen to it ironically, lolz). Friday... you can't jam to that. Well, maybe the rap part but not the rest of the song!

For realz, yo. Heck, I actually like a lot of Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Lady Gaga music. It's really fun music to dance to when you're at a club and are grinding up on college girls who've decided that they wanna be your Teenage Dream, so they Take it Off for a little bit of a Bad Romance ;)

And this, lol!

I gotta disagree with you on a few points, man. She didn't really "work" anything and this is instance of flash fame practically embodies the industry of today. Her parents paid a company that makes songs like this regularly (same formula and everything, lol). The company cranks this stuff out in hopes that they'll trike gold and they did! The only difference between Rebecca Black and Justin Beiber as far as circumstances initial fame go is that JB was found by a major label, and she paid her way in. Of course, this girl will likely be a one-hit wonder while JB has some degree of staying power. However, unlike JB, I don't think that she is famous because people like her. She's famous because people are laughing at her and they'll buy the track just to laugh at her more, not because they enjoy the music. For every every comment bashing JB, you can easily find a comment that praises him. For RB... I dare you to find a comment that praises her and doesn't reek of sarcasm, lol.

I totally agree that crap music has been in production for the better part of a decade though :D.

I am not saying this song doesn't suck, I am merely saying that if people are proclaiming this is the death of music, then it must have been alive before this song came out. The pop music scene that existed for the few years before this song came out have been dominated by lady gaga, katy perry, ke$ha, and the boy bands and whatnot who have been feeding us the same drivel long before this song was a twinkle in a producer's eye. This song is as bubblegum and disposable as tik tok, california gurls or heck, even Henry the 8th. This isn't news lol if anything, it's just that once a year or so song that comes out to lower our expectations so low so that pop artists can get worse and we don't notice because we are fixated on the "really bad one"
I agree with you that this isn't the end of music--I don't go in for that doom-and-gloom stuff, and I try not to be one of those grumpy old "baaah, all music sucks now" guys. But this particular song is the worst, most inane one I can recall ever hearing in my 47 years on this planet. Really!

I always have to smile when TBers get upset about the "state of music" when the music in question is aimed at preteens. New Kids on the Block didn't kill music. Neither did N'sync (sp?) and neither will this. What it WILL do is move a lot of product to kids that don't know that it's schlock.

The last three videos I watched before clicking on this thread:

YouTube - Mogwai - You're Lionel Richie

Not for everyone but to me these are examples of people who have and are moving music forward. Right now is a wonderful time to be a music fan. The barriers to entry in the record business are at an all time low. Anyone can record and promote their music freely and there is an immense amount of great stuff available. The hard part is doing the work to find the stuff that really moves you. But even that I enjoy.
Hey now, enough of this constructive, positive stuff. I'm tryin' to kvetch a little here!

Bit of a stinker of a song for sure, do it for the kids Rebecca!

Best lyric -'Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards',

She needs to get together with the Black Eyed Peas and sort out how many Saturdays are REALLY in a week. I've been under the impression that the days of the week go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Saturday, Sunday. :ninja:

Dave Grohl would disagree.

I would agree this is not the end of music. For every dud that makes the spotlight there are millions of unsung heroes. I posted this earlier with one reply but I think is kid is the perfect antidote to Miss Black.

It actually reminds me of a Dead Milkmen son "Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance to Anything)"

I tried to find it on youtube, but they only had one and it was slowed down like 75% for some reason.

But it had a cheesy club dance track and was basically a satire of the how genre (1985ish dance crap like Flock of Seagulls, Communards, etc.)

You can hear it here, if you're interested: Link Removed)

Just another wanna be who was told by friends or parents how great they are and they should be a professional singer and You Tube seems to be the way to be "discovered" so there's your video.

There are occasional bright spots, but there haven't been many great music or lyric writers for a long time.
