Double Bass Rabbath Technique (Again)

Ok, so heres the deal.

Ive been plowing headlong into this stuff as i may have to actually teach it soon.


It is really really making sense. Im talking to a few former instructors tomorrow and i should be able to get anyone started for the most part on rabbath technique.


I havent really seen anyone on the board who is an expert or a student of the rabbath method, so i figured id post that im here to help.

If there is a rabbath teacher or student on here who is the default/goto guy, i really dont want to step on your toes, and i probably have a few questions for you as well.

Do we want to do this in PM's, or a group thread thing so everyone can learn? This stuff really applies to Jazz too.

I am not sure what Violen wants with this topic or what his question is.
But I am interested to read all about the Rabbath technique.

I put it up there so you could read the bio. Patrick Neher in the ask a pro section studied with Rabbath and graduated from his program. He might know something about the technique. Just saying.

I read a lot of his posts. I was merely stating that if anyone had any questions on Rabbath technique, i would do my best to help find answers.

I misunderstood Violen, I thought you were asking for info about experts on the board. By all means make your discoveries public. That's what this forum is all about right. Thanks.

This stuff really applies to Jazz too.

Clearly that is true, Rufus Reid, Lynn Seaton and to a certain extent Garcia-Fons are great examples. I still think you need to be careful with it in a jazz context. For example, I don't think the pivots are the best idea for long periods of really digging in pizzicato - the way need to in order to play unamplified with a group.


Still, very useful ideas. We all need to be aware of them!
