Racial Microagressions

Not a liberal person here. More centrist/libertarian etc etc, but from my perspective, here in Jersey those news reports are hyped for all they're worth.

The incidents DO happen, but in being virtually over-reported as they are, they almost create a confirmation bias which feeds on itself.
Then, not only do people get worked up, but then you have idiots who copycat for the notoriety.

Compare the amount of "knock-out" game reports vs muggings, fights, and so on, in every city on every day....
The 'knock-out" game stuff tends to sell more news but is an absolute miniscule thing in comparison to the other things that can befall a person.
So, yeah, it does happen no arguments there, but you really have to put it into a bigger perspective.
What I mean, is not to say that your GF's work area is all of the sudden perfectly safe, it very well may not be, but it may be unsafe due to a simple increase in crime in general...? Otherwise it may be that all the hype itself HAS actually caused a bunch of idiots with nothing better to do to jump on the bandwagon.

Like copycat murderers, I think it's less a matter of not having anything better to do and more of their mind not allowing them to do other things because they want attention. I think that less attention and hoopla needs to be given to murders and other attacks, so the facts can be gathered, the cases can be adjudicated and the offenders sentenced. As for the information, it can be made available to anyone who wants it but the media needs to stop sensationalizing tragedies and violence.

Agreed. Reports of a "knock out game" are sensationalizing and potentially popularizing a criminal activity by attempting to assign some kind of a style or aesthetic to it. Shock value boosts ratings. Report the mugging, give the pertinent details and move on. Leave the hyperbole out of it.

From some of the reports, the ones committing these are treating it as a game so, it kind of is- at least, to them. The winner walks or runs away and the loser is knocked out. However, as I posted, I think they should stop rushing to get the report out before anyone else, just for the ratings.

I don't want vigilante justice to become the way this is dealt with and if it starts, I don't want to be near it.

Personal accountability for one's own actions?

I actually watched the film.

The first thing that caught my attention was a musician affording an apparently upper middle class life. By doing hire gun gigs.

I believe bolophonic was commenting on the 7 minutes that Vintagefiend feels is owed him by DerHoggz, and saying that DerHoggz does not owe these minutes to Vintagefiend because Vintagefiend is accountable for his own actions. Vintagefiend chose to spend his 7 minutes reading the article linked by DerHoggz.

Yes. I know.

Still doesn't explain how Brad can make a living.

When I see Brad acting it looks to me like 5 seconds ago he was Brad. And as soon as the shot is over he'll be Brad again.

Just my take on Mr Pitt.

Thats not necessarily a characteristic of bad actor. Not everyone prefers to stay in character when the cameras arent rolling.
I recently read an article about Jennifer Lawerence and it was told that she can snap in and out of charcter in a moments notice.
Im not sure how good of an actress you may condier her to be.
Though I like [some] of the roles that Pitt chooses I dont think your take on him is too far off center.

I liked Winter's Bone but the Hunger Games isn't doing it for me.

Brad Pitt always seems like he's just playing Brad Pitt doing this or that to me. I still like a good bit of his movies, so it's obviously not to the extreme of Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds.

Ive seen the Hunger Games, and wasnt into it. I dont think Ive seen anything else she's been in, but American Hustle looks good.

Yeah, I think thats kind of what Bawana was saying about him. I dont really disagree with that opinion, but like you, Ive still enjoyed some of his films despite it.
