Rack Cases

Hello friends. I am looking into purchasing a Mesa Titan V 12 and put it in a rack case along with a tuner, power conditioner and maybe a compressor of some sort. I am just wanting some reccommendations on what kind of case to buy and the best order to stack all these things in it. I am wanting a live in rack case. One that I can simply take the front and back panels off and run my cables. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Check out the EWI cases at Audiopile. Very good quality at a reasonable cost!

SKB. I won't buy another Gator 'cause the latches remain on the main rack when the lids are removed and they can rattle.

they can...but they don't

I like my Gator case. I wish the plastic was a bith thicker, but it's pretty solid, even with an 70lb SVT in there.

I'm giving this eBay store a shot:

10 space ATA case, removable lids, caster kit, NYS Tax, free shipping... <$160. The catch is you put it together yourself. If it sucks I'm going Pearson.

cheap is good and all, but those cases are only 1/4" ply--- i wouldnt get too crazy with the weight or my expectations of their durability. frankly, i would almost prefer a molded plastic case--- almost as strong but only a fraction of the weight. obviously, this is IMNSHO, and as such, YMMV... (insert other witty internet acronym/abbreviation here)

edit: i see that they do also offer 3/8" ply on their "super duty" cases...

^ +1. I had one of those Carvin 5U cases, and it was excellent, and the best price I found for comparable quality. It was the only Carvin purchase I didn't regret.

BTW, someone's going to say it, so it may as well be me: Unless you've already bought your fancy rackmount power conditioner, don't. It's a waste of money at best. OTOH, I've got one of these:

and I love it. Lightweight, 15' cord, protection and filtering, and two-tier outlets accommodate wall warts. Despite what the Web page says, my local GC stocks 'em for $25.

If you get a deep rack (not that 5U above), attach it to the inside of the back cover with some velcro, stick the cord in the case and latch it up. It won't eat up a rack space, and it weighs about 7 pounds less than a rackmount power conditioner.

my 400+ lives in a 4 space road ready effects case, all by itself.....it's just the right size and doesn't add a lot of weight.....if you're going on the road with it tho' i'd suggest a shock mount and not adding too many effects/tuners etc to keep the weight down

EWI is good, and so is the RoadReady brand.

I have a rolling 4U shock rack for my 400+.

And FYI, the Titan + that other stuff is going to be HEAVY. I used to have one in an 8U RoadReady rack with a Monster PC, Korg DTR tuner and XDR Wireless. Heavy sumbitch.

rockstarbassist:

I want to put my 400+ in a new SKB rack as the old one is falling apart (latches won't stay closed on the front / back lids). The previous owner had put a vent in the rack for the 400+ fan.

Question: did you create a vent in your rolling 4U shock rack for the fan? Or did you worry about it? I'm wondering how important that vent is in the side of my 4u rack for the 400+.

Thanks.

Dave
