Racking a CA-9

I just got a CA-9 in trade. So far it sounds fantastic and honestly isn't that big a deal to lug around (lift with the legs!) But I didn't bother to check the physical specs before pulling the trigger and it won't fit either my 2U or 4U SKB rack cases. It'll fit in my shockmount 16U, but that's a little more rack than I really need for bass gigs. :)

So if you're gigging an amp that's 18 inches deep, what are you putting it in? Is some heavy plywood based rack my only choice?

I put mine in a Gator "L" series 4-space...works.

I recently ordered two "Head Case" rack cases from Marc Serio at Dr. Bass so that I could carry my Crest power amp (an LT2000, very similar to a CA9) and my premp/tuner/powerstrip separately. As usual, Marc was very accomodating about making the cases to fit my gear. I'm particularly anxious to try his bedliner-type finish.

The cases should be here in a week or two. I'll post a complete review after they arrive.

Weird.. with my non-roto 4U it's about half an inch too long for the back cap to fit. I'll have to go monkey with it again since it's working for you. The gear junkie in me is fine with buying a new case but I have so much fragmented rack space in my basement that I'd really have to sell a couple things to maintain marital harmony.

No dice with mine. Looks like it'd work in theory but the shape of the inner mold of the cap prevents it from seating. I may have to try some offsets on the front rails.

Mine's around seven years old btw.

I'll check out the rotos if the offset idea doesn't work.
