Radial Pro DI for sketchy live situations?

Here in FL, we play at all sorts of outdoor gigs; cheaply wired, rain-soaked, humidity-plagued venues with sound guys who vary widely in their knowledge, abilities and temperaments. I play standard Ps and Js and the occasional active Ibanez through an old Ampeg B2R head and a newer Peavey Minimax. Neither onboard direct out is completely quiet (sometimes yes, sometimes no). Last week a sound guy gave me a Radial Pro DI (passive) and everything (at the worst electrical venue in town) was dead quiet and sounded good. I want to buy one. I know the old adage of active DI for passive bass and passive DI for active bass. That being said, some of these "sound" guys wouldn't know phantom power from Casper the Friendly Ghost. Would the Radial Pro DI be a good all-around choice, or is there a better option?

That said..you generally can't go wrong with a Radial. !!!!

Radial makes a good preamp by anybody's measure. Entire industry wouldn't say that if there wasn't some element of truth. Been impressed with their products in the past, and I'm thinking about getting the PZ-PRE soon.

You are right; just did a more thorough search--most of the best info was on this forum (I was looking in the amps/cabs forum), so please excuse; looks like the JDI might be the best all-around choice for what I do. Do people often buy these used? Some pretty good deals if I go that way.

Live, I would argue that the Pro DI is good enough. Live you are not going to notice the difference between the Pro DI and the JDI. In the studio, that is a different matter.

For spearateDI's in my sound co, I have 3 Radial Pro DI's and one of their stereo pro av di's. I also have Countryman and DBX and LR Baggs active di's. All good, all reliable. In my personal rig I use a Radial Bassbome and the DI in it which is passive, like the pro. Been using it for several years with no complaints, ever. If you like the sound of the Pro - use it. Plan on owning it forever as they are near to indestructible.
