Double Bass random outburst

Hey Sippy....I use the DBT pickup whenever I need to get louder than the mic alone (or unamped). It sounds great blended or alone. It is easy install and is priced right. There are probably better pickups available, especially for arco work, but it's hard to beat for the price.

I just bought a K&K double big twin pickup with a power pack preamp from TPlyons, and also almost new Hellicore Hybrids from bassplayer2. Your opinions on this setup for a jazz sound?
Hey Sippy, this might depend on what you're looking for in a "jazz sound."

On my bass, the DBT had lots and lots of sizzly mids and highs, but not much low end heft. This worked okay for adding a "seasoning" of sorts to my pizz sound when combined with a BassMax, but by itself the DBT was just not my cup of tea. I crave old school pluck & thump, and I just couldn't seem to dial that type of tone in w/ the DBT.

I do remember that when I changed the bridge on my bass, the tone of the DBT changed dramatically. More variables to contend with .... geez ....

I would have experimented more with the placement of the four transducers, but sticking them on and then pulling them off eventually just got to be too much of a chore. Perhaps EQ would have helped, but I like to run things flat on my rig if at all possible.

I'm sure it sounds better on Marcus's (and Bob G's) bass than mine. So maybe it's just me. I would say if you want a real present and forward type of tone on upright, it could be just the thing.
