RCO Pedals Club

Ryan just finished my RCO (Red) RangeRipper pedal (Dallas Rangemaster with an eight-way rotary switch with eight different types of input caps)...I plan to use this in front of my modded Mesa D-180 with my modded bass-VI-ish Agile guitar.

He's got another up on the 'verb as well. Never really played a Klon before, so I'm interested in your take. It seems that they are "transparent", which I'm not usually after. But I wonder how it would compare at low gain to my beloved Pork Loin? I was debating trying a Grizzly Bass for that as well, but really have no need to change, so am in no rush to spend money.
I dig the Klon, though I was more of a fan of running it hard. Has an op amp roar to it. IIRC the cost isn't bad and Mathews Effects the architect and Engineer are Klons. I had the former and it had enough low end of tap.
So folks...I've been running my RCO Bass Klon next to my MXR Sugar Drive with the same settings first (Gain at 12:30, Treble at 1:00, and Output at 10:00). The Bass Klon is like the Sugar Drive but with more oomph in the lows and low mids. I love it!!! It really shines when I crank the gain and engage the RCO RangeFinder in front of it (then engage the RCO Grizzled Grime after both) through my Arkham Oracle...it is nasty, doomy, tubey bliss. I can't decide whether I like SquireDhana or Sedona Lee through this setup most but they are both the nasty winners...when I play Dómur through this and put on some chorus, it is definitely a great Type O Negative vibe. Flippin' rad you guys...

I dig it! I'm gonna shoot him a message tonight about making a DA-120OD, I wanna try the range finder too. How do you like the alternate frequency points on it?
And yeah, Klon going all out is soo good. I love the roar they give.
I am so tempted to do a DA-120 myself. I like some of the lower frequency points a lot BUT I find myself going back to setting 3 which is the original Dallas Rangemaster setting…it’s just magic in my opinion.

I can't argue that, I really dig the couple range masters clones I've used. I figure it would let hurt having the extra options.

Got out my Grizzled Grime (Dunwich ODB clone) today. I have it replacing my modded Pork Loin for a low gain drive that can also act as a boost to my other dirt pedals. I've tried this in the past, so we'll see how long this lasts, but I'm loving it so far. Been a lot of shakeups in my rig the last few months. If this stays, I may have to ask Ryan to make another one for me.
Well, RCO listed another Grizzled Grime the other day, so of course, I had to buy it...
I noticed that the two pedals are slightly different, and had chalked it up to component tolerance levels or something, knowing full well that no two pedals are 100% identical. Ryan just happened to message me saying that the new one had a slightly different Opamp and wondering if I noted any differences. First off - amazing customer service, AND he even remembered that I had bought an identical pedal before! I bought that pedal a little over two years ago, with my latest purchase from him just over a year ago - incredible memory. (Or maybe Reverb shows him past purchases from people? Regardless, excellent customer service!) So, we've been having a conversation on Reverb the last day or so, and I've been giving him the rundown of my findings. He's actually going to send me - for free - an Opamp matching my first Grizzled Grime to install in the socket of my second Grizzled Grime. Absolutely amazing guy, and way above and beyond for me.
Long story short - if you're on the fence about buying from RCO, the only possible negative I can see is that you aren't a fan of the circuit in general. The build quality, tone, communication, and after purchase support are absolutely phenomenal from Ryan. Buy from him with no reservations - he's certainly earned my return business any time he's got a circuit I'm interested in.

Completely agree, great guy to work with not to mention my same experience for excellent customer service and build quality.
Just got two pedals - an ODB (red knobs) and a volt thrower (blue knobs) - both are awesome!
Always wanted both, but couldn't justify the used Dunwich prices. It's a little better these days with magic pedals on the scene, but still, the value of these RCO builds is unreal!

I agree on all accounts, and now I have two of each from RCO! Amazing pedals, wonderful builder.
Nice score man! I actually scooped up his Volt Thrower with black knobs on Sunday. Ryan is the MAN!
Also, still very much in love with his first batch of Magic Wizard Fuzz clones. And of course i changed the knobs…

I wanted to love the Wizard so much, but it just didn't do it for me. No fault of his, though - excellent build quality as usual. Just not my tone.
I can appreciate that. The Wizard Fuzz itself does lose a smidge of low end, but i just cant sell this one. Plus, the Depth knob goes from 12, to 1, 2, 3 to 11, whereas it should start with 1, and end with 12. However since the 12th position is my favorite depth, it’s comically perfect for me
I just found the treble overbearing - which is a plus for some! I had the treble around 9:00-10:00 most of the time, and it just wasn't working. I ended up using other fuzzes, but all that being said, generally prefer lower gain fuzzes. That is decidedly NOT the Wizard, so I probably wasn't the target audience anyway. I just figured I'd try another Dunwich design at an affordable price!
