When I saw the name Ryan I was like "Yo Built By Ryan started a new company?" I loved that guys pedals back in the day.

Glad I came across this thread. I may give the ODB a chance. At one point I had every Dunwich pedal there was. TBH they weren't that great. Lot more hype IMO than good tones.

Nice!! His stuff just absolutely nails the sound, in a sleek enclosure, and for a down-right steal. He made a Basic Audio Scarab clone awhile back that i sincerely regret selling. But anyway, Mr. Oars is one heck of a builder and dude

I generally like the Black Arts Toneworks stuff - my absolute favorite is the Priestess. Just the right amount of cut, plenty of bass, great definition - it was one of those pedals I plugged in and it just sounded right. After that, I really like the CMC Effects clones of the Bubble Font and Tall Font. I have plenty of the CMC Muffs (most of his offerings) and they're all excellent for what they do. Very similar builder to RCO, actually, but he seems to have a "standard offering" of pedals, and adds to the stable occasionally instead of building random stuff here and there like RCO does. Anyway, his Bubble Font is also amazing.

After those, I really like my old Pharaoh Supreme (though it's the opposite end of the spectrum from the Wizard - not quite enough treble as I'd like, though ridiculously tweakable and boostable) and my trusty Swollen Pickles. After all of these, I really don't have any GAS for fuzz these days, except maybe if the Priestess was put in a smaller enclosure like the Son of Pharaoh (or cloned into one...) or sometimes I think about the various Pharaoh one-offs, but I figure I have the Supreme and those would probably be redundant. One day, maybe a LSTR, but I fear that may also be too high gain for me. Though I was pleasantly surprised by the Priestess - at first it seemed too aggressive for me, but it works beautifully in the mix, so I'm hoping maybe a LSTR would be similar.

All this being said, I'm trying NOT to add to my pedal horde this year! (And am actively trying to reduce it.) I've been doing quite well so far, at least with not adding to it...

yeah he accepts them, but to be totally honest, i don’t send offers anymore. His builds deserve every penny, and it’s going directly to him and his craft. (and well, Reverb. F that website)

Anyway, i’ll send offers all day long to almost anybody, but with his stuff being like $100 already, I just pay the price and am never dissatisfied.

I've found they reward tweaking. I bought the clones after having had some of the originals and passing them on. Let's put it this way - I doubt I'd ever pay the original sticker price, let alone some of the markups on used prices. But they can certainly have amazing tones!

I hear you and can respect that. I have a slightly different take though. If he accepts offers I'm gonna throw him one. Worst case scenario is he says no. Thanks Sonic!

It is indeed a clone of the Crowther Hot Cake. I only plugged it in last night. Surprisingly, it does not seem to lose much bottom end, if any at all. At the moment I have it feeding into a Spaceman Effects Saturn VI an that definitely keeps the lows.

I haven't played a Hot Cake in a very long time but it seems to be what I remember it sounded like. Just like the Hot Cake the XLF or low switch doesn't do much, even on bass so I'd say this is a faithful reproduction? I'll run it through my guitar and a Vox AC30 at some point to confirm that but so far it sounds like a Hot Cake to me.

Solid value.

Awesome! Let us know how the TAFM sounds!

Some updates on my end…

Ordered a DAM Sonic Titan clone from him. Super sick, but even with the “fat” mode, there was juuuust a smidge of low end loss so I’ll be selling that one.

Just purchased the RCO Sinner (Sansamp BDDI clone) off of a TBer so I’ll see that soon.

Ryan is currently building me a JHS Moonshine V2 clone. Rumor has it that it sounds better than the original.

Lastly, he’s hooking me up with an EQD Monarch clone, but it will have additional features like a Boost option and Presence knob

TAFM is great. The clean has a touch of hair on it so you can run that on its own for a nice boost. The distortion/fuzz sounds great and you can get some OD as well. Very useful pedal.
