No doubt re the Fodera, but my argument has always been, is it audible to the audience, and do any of them give a stuff so long as you're grooving?

I have a cheap old car that I really like, full of small dents and scratches, and I'd keep it even if I came into a lot of cash and could afford a flash car because I'd rather keep that pristine. I had a stacked to the gunwales steel shopping trolley roll away from someone else and crash into my car and make a small dent, and I laughed.
Look at it as just a tool. Regardless of your skill level, you want as good a tool as you can afford, whatever you are working on. Yes, other tools will do the job, but the good tools can make things easier, and sometimes put a smile on your face while using them. Just stop buying and selling. That's a lot of damn work!
It was new at some point, no? You didn't wait for it to be an old, dented car, to drive it.
I just think that things are meant to be used. If they get a scratch, a ding, it's life.

Yeah I agree with this as well, my upright bass cost about as much as the bass in the OP, I’ve played it in large concert halls in Brooklyn and then gone across the River to Manhattan the same bass in the basement of a Chinese wholesale fish market…
20 years before I bought it, already dented and with the 2 pack paint peeling.
I care about as much about the audience's opinion about my bass, as they care about mine.

Also surprised no one has asked what rig you play through!? Because you're going through amazing basses like my girlfriend goes through toilet paper.
I've gone through quite a few basses over the years, usually I break even. I don't regret many purchases or sales. I'm still looking for that perfect bass.
But 20 years ago I spent everything I had on my warwick thumb 5nt. This was a time when I could go to GC every day and play every bass they had, and decide which one spoke to me and brought out the best in my playing. So I bought it. And then I got laid off. I've always thought about what a bad move it was, even though it made so much sense when I did it. And yet, I still have that stupid thing. And it sounds and feels amazing still. But there's this energy attached to it. Ya know?
What I really needed, and still do, is some lessons from a good teacher. Or at least a more structured practice habit that includes technique and theory.

got a Genzler Magellan 800 going through a Genzler Nu-classic 212. And yea, thanks. Imma try to stick with my Stingray 5 HH for a while, someone had actually bought it the day I ordered the MTD, but when I cancelled the order I decided to refund the guy and keep it cause it’s a real nice stingray and it’d be a shame to get rid of it when I’m not replacing it with something [subjectively] nicer. It’s a great bass, other than the fact that in 25 years plus of making 5s music man hasn’t fixed the G string being so close to the edge of the board
Actually I recently got the Genzler
I had a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 rig before and was very happy with it. Just wanted change to a single 212 cab and head set up so I decided that Genzler would be a good upgrade due to how well my GB rig performed and held up.

Ten basses in a year?, and in ur own words you suck? How bout buy a cheap old Squire for pennies, set it up and practise like your life depends on it. Spending money ain't gonna make you a better player, practise will.
I was looking for a Fender Jazz. A friend offered me a USA fender jazz but I bought a MIM. My son said it best, "is someone going to walk up on stage and look for the fine print?"
True and there's that part of it where we want to absorb some of the magic that we assume that our heroes get from playing a certain instrument. I'm a long time Entwistle fan, but even when I had Alembics, I didn't sound like him, nor do I sound like Pino with a P, or Tony Levin with a Stingray. But I have played in a lot of party bands and the like and I know I can get people moving with the Ibanezes that I prefer in my hands.
Yeah, we were in Cozumel and heard this band that was a American cover band. Bass player was playing a beat up Old SR500?? One of the best Ibanez's I have ever heard. Funny I have never owned one.

It seems I have to come to my defense after tearing myself down.
I say I "suck" because I know where I could be and I'm not there. In reality, I'm pretty decent. I'm in a band, and I know our music better than they do and they wrote it. We did a Paramore cover set and I had 11 song set on lock in 4 days, and did darn good at the show. I can read chord changes and get through a walking swing line, albeit i wont be very fancy with my chordal outlining. My band mates and Worship team members always say I'm a great bassist, I just give myself a hard time accepting that remark.
I started bass at around 12 years old at church with no one to teach me. My best friend who is my age was our pianist at the time, and taught me the first 5 frets on the E and A string of a guitar and I was on my own from there. granted, I didn't have my own bass for about 1 or 2 years of having started so I really only played at practice and Sundays. And when I got my first bass I was listening to Metalcore where the bass was indiscernible amidst the distorted guitars and blasting drums. and from there moved on to prog where the bassists were playing far beyond what I could ever imitate at my level then. My Ibanez GSR205 had the same strings and was never set up from the time I got it all the way until I joined jazz band at school in 11th grade, so you can imagine how inspiring it was to play then.
When I look back at all the time that went by when I was a kid, that I squandered playing video games. All I can say is "dang I suck" because I know that if i had really put in practice between these 11-12 years that have passed I'd be one of those guys on Instagram sweep picking and tapping away. If you were to hear me play, you'd think I was a 4-5 year player killing it, but instead I'm a 12 year player far behind. That's why I say I "suck".
Truth be told I'm probably on the same level as alot of y'all on here that don't play professionally. I'm probably a better singer than I am a bassist, but my heart leans on the low end. In fact, I WILL be known to people someday, maybe not as a virtuoso bassist, but as a good musician and song writer for sure, whether that be in the Rock scene, prog scene, worship scene or all three God willing.

People seldom read the whole thread, maybe a few comments before the one they see as last before they post.
I started around the age of 18, perhaps 19. I practiced diligently for a good while. Then I took the bass lessons I mentioned somewhere in this thread and it sidetracked my study of scales for YEARS. I then started a band with some friends, which went on for years so that part was good, however I fell into the trap of mostly "practising" our set list at home. All the years I wasted there, I will never get back.
You are doing fine, from what I can read.
Welcome to Talkbass. Expect this thread to be revived in a few years by someone who will ignore the date, and tell you to cancel your order
I'm not against financing things, but I think the OP made a good decision canceling that order.
