REALLY Cheap Ibanez ATK's!

Mine was about £70-80 to mod for a Jazz pickup (the guy repaird my ABG at the same time so I'm not sure exactly) doesn't include the £70 Seymour Hot Stack I used so you can judge for yourself whether it's cheap enough for not, I've never been happier with any bass then I have with my ATK so it was definitely worth it for me.

Luthier prices aren't comparable state-to-state let alone across an ocean. I'm most likely going to sell or trade it, but I'll wait until the blowout is over.

i just looked out of curiousity.

i think we bought all the 750KAs. they are not showing up on MF or GC (i know same owner and all that).

i'm glad I got mine. It is much funkier than my others.

No, they're still listed on MF:

Whew, thank goodness there are only 4-strings left. My GAS kicked in big time for a second there.

Note: the special made-for-GC versions don't have the multi-colored sparkle finish. For some that might be a plus, I guess. :)

I've had my ATK305 for, what, six months? I want another one, no, make that two, one as a spare, one to experiment with electronics mods. Predictable sound all over the neck, goes from finger picking to slapping gracefully, it's just a beautiful thing. (And I like the way they look, bonus!)

I can live without the top, so long as the tone is there! I had no idea they made these. Are they discontinued?

I got a mohawk swore by his when he had it, think he got a 750 for a bit of change of scenery but he had his 400 for a good long while. He reckoned they were just as good as any of the 300 series anyway, you just might have a bit of a tough time finding one second hand, but they are out there.

*EDIT* had a bit of a look for you and could find anything other then THIS. If your lucky after 5 years it might still be for sale :p the guys still active (logged on today at least) so you might get very lucky.

While looking on ebay I couldn't help but mention these 2 for sale in Germany:

Both rosewood boards in non-typical colour schemes, ones the cool turquoise Japanese thing someone mentioned in the ATK club a bit ago.

Oh yeah I know the prices aren't gonna be that comparable, if anything there's probably more Luthiers in most parts of the states then there are here so you'd get a cheaper deal, not to mention that U.S. made pickups are obviously cheaper where you are. If you don't feel it's worth it then fair enough though.

Based on feel tone and looks, it out performs some $1000 basses Ive bought. In a nut shell, with the neck and bridge coils activated, I hear a beautiful jazz tone, with the two outside coils of the MM pickup activated I'm hearing a MONSTER Stingray. This is by far the best $349 I have ever spent on a new bass... period. My only regret is that I didn't buy TWO!!! Below you see it among just a few of my 40+ basses and in a blind taste test, I would gig it just as fast as I would my Smith, either Alembics, Bossa, Rbass, MTD, etc. It looks right at home among my upper end gear too...

Thanks,

KT...

On the several 750s I've seen pictures of from this sale batch, the tops are about three grades lower grade koa than in the site pictures. I'll not be pleased if mine shows up like that.
Mine arrived today. The top wood is probably the best I've seen so far. Link Removed does not do justice to the intense flaming. It's AAA Koa. The headstock laminate is several grades lower.

On my own averaged 12-point objective build rating on the 1-5 scale (with 1 being a deal-killer and 5 being flawless) it came up 3.1 surprisingly close to the Bass Lab's 3.0 rating, though the two specimens obviously had different strong and weak points and our test criteria are somewhat different.

The long-caul fret build did not work out on this example, and before you declare your own's "awesome," I suggest you Google "fret rocking" and get a deeper understanding of what a really good fretboard is. ;) This one will take some work to get right. I considered sending this one back, but its good points about offset its bad points, and they tend to be at a pretty extreme spread -- as tends to be the case on production imports.

I may do a serious website review of this one, if I can convince myself there's a point to doing one for a discontinued model. :hmm:

I'm also debating whether to order a natural maple ATK700 tonight.

Hey, always glad to help! :hmm:

Guess I'd better buy one of those ATK700 naturals before you do, too.
Come on man, I held myself back so hard, don't give me ideas now. :crying:

WHAT. THE. HELL. That top is amazing. That is not something you'd find on a $350 bass.

No, it's not, and that's not that good of a picture of it, but I was hurrying before a storm hit. Only rare 4A and "Special" grades of koa could beat this, though. For a top like that, I'll clean up the frets and overlook the much less spectacular headstock veneer, which looks like spalted masonite by comparison. :hmm:
