REALLY Cheap Ibanez ATK's!

Nice pix of the 750 - thanks for posting those.

For those who spend time modding and part swapping, please note that the tuners shown in the back of the headstock photo appear to be very similar to the one used on the Squier VM basses, except they look like they are higher quality than the Squiers.

If the ATK tuners are reversible for L or R (they look like they could be), if you wanted to put different tuners on the ATK, you may be able to nicely upgrade your VM bass with these ATK tuners. (The stock VM tuners are not terrific).

Just reverse the two R side tuners so you end up with 4L for the VM.

When My 700 comes in, I'll check the reversibility of the tuners. They look similar to Grovers in the pic.

The tuners on my new ATK750 were of very high quality. Turn smooth and feel tough. Not sure if they are the same as some other ATKs as the ATK750 is made in Korea and some of the other ATK models are make in Indonesia, so the hardware could be different.

I ordered the ATK750KOA Tuesday and had the payment immediately verified, but MF is still dithering around getting it out, as usual. That warehouse seems to be on perpetual bong break.

I called and screamed at them for a while about how they ALWAYS take three to four days to get around to shipping my stuff and refuse to honor their guarantee they have on all their pages:

===============
"Our Delivery Guarantee

"* We ship most verified* orders for in-stock items received by 12 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, the same day.
* If we fall short of our Delivery Guarantee, call us at 800-391-8762, and we will refund your shipping charges and give you a 20% discount on your next order placed within 90 days. (Maximum value for discount is $1,000.00.)"
================

After some eloquent ranting, I shamed them into the 20% discount on my next order.

So...hmm...what do you think of this for $240? :p :

BTW, that's probably the only meaningful bass review I've ever read. Ever.

Too bad their website's operability is so atrocious. :(

My daughter told me to make a jumpy dude, so ... :hyper:

Thanks for the PDF. Sounds like good solid bass with the usual issues - sharp fret ends, potentially noisy electronics, and suspect shielding. But, none of these are deal killers and that is one heck of a price right now.

It looks like the diagram in the review on the Ibanez page is a little blurred, so here's a better look at that pickup selector diagram for the ATK750:

On the several 750s I've seen pictures of from this sale batch, the tops are about three grades lower grade koa than in the site pictures. I'll not be pleased if mine shows up like that. :scowl:

Out of curiosity, is there a quick reference / set of standards for what makes a Koa wood grade? I'm not questioning at all - just curious.

Wood grade aside - I've played an ATK 700 before and the flame top was absolutely gorgeous.

I ordered one as well, I have been looking for a good 4 banger at a good price, and believe I have found it. I will post a review once I receive it. These will not last, I know of three other people that I have contacted who have placed an order as well.

I'm enjoying my new koa quite a bit. It's real pretty. i added some neck relief and got rid of most of the buzz. the frets are not perfect- someday i might like to have a pro look it over, but for now, as long as i don't dig in sheehan hard its good. This bass is sweet for slap.

It gets a really good Jazz sound with the first 3 pickup settings, and the humbucker style is nice too. The J solo'ed (#1) would be nice for reggae, it's real boomy. Oddly, the middle coil option (#5) sounds a lot better on my ATK305. But it might be the meatier strings giving it a deeper tone.

I'm GASing for a Koa soooo bad...I have the money for it and everything. But I've been on a "new bass" search for a couple months now, and it's driving me mental. When it comes down to it, I think it'll be either the Koa, or a Spector Rex 4 Holoflash. I just don't know... :hmm:
