I think that the main item of his music was a Fender j-bass of doom (with roundwounds) and Acoustic 360 amp, the fx were changed a lot.

He de-fretted the neck himself and then coated it with marine epoxy. That's where some of the "mwahhh" came from. Not sure how well the fingerboard survived. That particular bass is still out there though.

not sure about that, he gave contrary accounts as to whether he bought it fretless or defretted it himself. Manic depressives often talk a million miles an hour, not even knowing if they are lying or not, in the manic state. I would bet on the former, because telling someone you did yourself sounds better.
