I don't know how I missed it either, except that the good stuff flies below the pop world radar. This album makes me want to smoke Gitanes and drink espressos in the rain while I thump an old pbass. Love it. Just delightful.

She has some substantial heritage…daughter of Kevin Ayers, idiosyncratic British singer/songwriter. Initially bassist with Soft Machine during their psychedelic pop beginnings, he split as they wandered off to become jazz rock/prog icons, and forged a solo style that was somewhere between Lou Reed and Serge Gainsbourg. Worked with the likes of Mike Oldfield, Steve Hillage, Nico, John Cale, Eno, Syd Barrett, Andy Summers, and Ollie Halsall…


Previously, Galen had collaborated with a contemporary of her father’s, Bridget St. John, an overlooked gem of the British folk-rock era; if you liked Sandy Denny, you should dig deep into her stuff, although she has her own unique style.
