Reasonable? Unreasonable?

I wouldn’t be happy about the lack of communication after the sale. It makes me wonder how long they would have waited to ship if you hadn’t given a nudge.
This is the part many are missing. I purchased it on Sunday, then contacted him Wednesday, four days later. This was a seller with very little feedback and four days without communication had me a little concerned. His response was that it would go out the next day, Thursday. The tracking info, which I checked on Friday, indicated it was dropped off at the usps that day. I also indicated I had no problem with the shipping cost, just put that in the OP so all relevant facts were known.

Glad that the surgery went well. Sounds like there is some sense of urgency with regard to your medical condition.
Given that, I must say that if I only had a few weekends left to live, getting a new bass in time to play it before the big sleep would be pretty low on my personal list. But we all have our personal priorities.
Reminds me of a story told to me (and this really happened) about a man who was literally at the end of the line. Like in his last few minutes. His wife was by his side and the last thing he said to her was, "Don't forget that Thursday is trash night and you have to take the cans to the street".

Yes, I expect to live, but that wasn’t the point. I never mentioned it in my OP, but did it as a response to some “chill” comment about having a few more weekends. Many people make assumptions based upon their own experiences, not realizing the struggles of others. That being said, your comment is pretty insensitive. There was a a period of time where I didn’t think I was going to have many more weekends and it wasn’t the garbage I was concerned about, it was my eleven and sixteen year old sons and my wife. There are others on TB who are in my predicament and do not have the optimistic outcome I do. I suggest you rework your material if you have an actual conversation with someone who is near the end, it may not have the effect you think it should.

I don't think we're missing that part. We just don't think it's as big a deal as you seem to think. That's all.

Reading this... I'm thinking of never selling anything online... If you want to buy something from me, come and get it when I'm at home, at the right price.
I'm always glad that there are people who are so nice to take the time to sell things on the web against barely no profit... If it takes longer to get it for the right price, it is still a win/loose situation in my favor: I wave the money they do all the work....

Well, the seller’s breaking Reverb policies. So whether or not you think it’s a big deal is irrelevant. When you buy something on Reverb I think it’s reasonable to expect an item be shipped within their stated timeframe, not 2 days after that.

^This.

It reminds of the friends/relatives who always say "I was just about to call you!" when you contact them after they were supposed to contact you days earlier.:eyebrow: How many legitimate coincidences can there be?:meh:

Let's face it - sometimes folks are just plain irresponsible; no excuses. That may or may not be the case in this instance, but it's so often true.

Yeah well I guess that I am pretty insensitive. But then I believe about 2% of what people say on the internet and anyone who wears their heart on their sleeve on social media should be not only prepared but should expect to see all kinds of responses.
Good luck and I hope you live long to enjoy your new bass once it arrives.

I think it's fair to hold people accountable to their responsibilities, but not be a dick about it. In fact, I think as a society we should hold each other accountable more often than we do. If you allow people to give you sub standard service without consequence they will absolutely continue to do so and get worse about it.

A ding on a feedback rating is not the same as angrily shouting at a fast food worker for getting your order wrong. You want good feedback? Get your crap together and earn it.
Very well said.

Thanks for your support, but I don’t “wear my heart on my sleeve.” I also agree that you should only believe 2% of what you read; I wasn’t talking about a bass, it was clearly listed as a piece of recording equipment, you read it incorrectly.

If the seller shipped in the specified timeframe I would agree, but since it took him 5 days when reverb’s policy is 3, I could see the seller agreeing to a partial refund in exchange for no negative feedback. That’s all. Not because the price was too much.

Reverb's policy maybe 3 days but so what? eBay is constantly changing my preferences to include impossible shipping goals that are 'Guaranteed' by some unnamed entity. Reverb isn't selling the item - the seller is. Reverb is a marketplace. The OP hasn't bothered to indicate the seller's side so it is all speculation on our part. I once bought an item from a guy and in the interim he had a near life-ending heart attack. I didn't know and in the end he was quite cool and made everything right for me. All without threats or whining.

The fact that you would post negative feedback or extort a refund on that premise tell me to NEVER sell you ANYTHING.

True, they're the marketplace, but you're also agreeing to their rules when you use their services. If their rules say sellers have 3 days, sellers are agreeing to that 3 day rule. You joined TalkBass and agreed to rules. If you're expected to abide by those rules. If you don't and people complain, you can lose your membership- same concept. It's not really that complicated.

OP did share the seller's side. He contacted them on Wednesday. They said it would go out Thursday, it went out Friday. If you're going to gloss over posts that's fine, but then don't talk out of your rear end about what you know about a situation.

And regarding "extorting" money, I think you'd be surprised how many sellers would rather refund a couple bucks than get negative feedback. As the seller I'd rather at least be given that choice rather than wake up with negative feedback.

You don't have to worry about selling to me, only Supporting Members can sell on TalkBass. But given the fact that you think 5 days to ship is acceptable when a website's rules say 3, I wouldn't want to deal with you either. ;)

you may be technically correct... but good luck in life if you choose to get upset at every minor breach.

First world problems indeed.

Especially as a new seller, he might have thought two weeks is a reasonable time to get something in the post. It's amazing how many people sign up for things without actually reading the contract. In hind sight you should have contacted him immediately since you needed it, but I can understand why you did not. Virtually everything I've purchased from Reverb has gone out within three days - often the same day, perhaps because I've immediately sent payment via PayPal - and the time it took a week, the seller contacted me immediately, same day, to make sure I was okay with that. Had I said I needed it immediately, I suspect he would have managed to meet his obligation.

Glad your prognosis is good. The rest of this is just a minor irritation.

I'm not (not my thread). I'm just saying I understand disappointment of it taking 5 days to ship when it's supposed to take 3 or less.

So it is effective extortion then?
I guess it would depend on how things are worded. The last thing I bought from Reverb I actually had a problem with. I sent a message to the seller and didn't ask for a refund or threaten negative feedback, just detailed the issue. The seller made it right on their own.

I don't consider that extortion.

Nor do I, but what you suggest the OP does certainly sounds like it.
