Reccomend a Tapewound Brand/Gauge

D'Addario tape wounds are the only tapes that I've seen unravel. However they replaced it. I've tried La Bella, GHS and D'Addario. I've sold the bass with GHS and they are the best.

Do not throw the D'Addario box because they need a number in there that to issue player points and they replaced without any question and shipping was free. I they the box but the CS accepted the number from my guitar strings

I like the black Labellas the best. because of the roundwound in them, there is a nice zing and attack on them, which is great for punchy, double bass-like tone on fretless with a good 'click' (no mwah for me)

I use the 60-115 set and had no issues with nut or bridge slots

I have the D’Addario Black Nylon Tapewounds on 2 basses. A Devon Jazz 5 and my Ovation 5 String Acoustic. I am debating on putting a set on my P Bass. I’ve tried the Fender and RotoSound versions, but they felt too stiff and too much like plastic. I tried the LaBella White Gold tapes, but they felt too flimsy…. Like they took out the “guitar” feel. With the D’Addario’s, I can still utilize all of my playing styles, fingers, pick, slap and not have to concentrate on feel. They perform and record equally well.

If I may comment on the "flimsy": La Bella has two sets of gauges for each of their models of nylon tape strings. When you say the White Gold was "flimsy," did you have the light 50-105 instead of the regular 60-115? All four variants have similar windings under the strings, and I have played them all, so a "regular" set feels about the same, whether white, black, gold, or copper, and likewise on the "light" sets. Also, it's hard to imagine the Fenders being stiff, since they are the lightest gauge strings made under the wrap @ 38-88. I'm glad the D'A's are working for you, because being the "light" 50-105, they were floppy for me. YMMV.

Do you happen to know the gauge of the strings that your nut originally came with?

The bass came with the M4DN strings (roundwounds), with a gauge of .045-.105.

I run the D'Addario Tape Wounds too. On both my fretless MTD and my fretted Yamaha BBP
5-string, 50-135
Can't complain
The ones on my fretless have been there for 3+ years

When you say the White Gold was "flimsy," did you have the light 50-105 instead of the regular 60-115?

Yeah, I chose that gauge since it was in the running of the D’Addario set. The Fender set I had was the old, green pack set…. Still same gauge as current set at 58-110

Well Amazon screwed me on my order of D'Addario Black tapes- they say my package is lost!?! I put in for a refund.
So now I ordered through Guitar Center. I pray for better luck!
