Recent Female Rock Vocalists

Can't forget Karen O, from Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

ANY song on the album "Show Your Bones" is a winner. It's really hard for me to recommend any one specific song. But just to throw a few out there:

"Fancy"

I might get hammered for this, but how Katy Perry. Her songs are catchy and if you rearranged them to be a little more rock it could be fun.

Yes.

Also, I gave up trying to apologize for having "guilty pleasures" a while ago. If you like it, and someone else tells you it sucks, they're the a-hole.

Unless of course Justin Bieber is one of your guilty pleasures. In that case you're the a-hole and deserve the judgment. ;)

I kind of feel like this thread is just confirming the OP's issue - hardly any of the posts list vocalists who are ...
1) recent (last TEN years, not TWENTY)...
2) popular...
3) rock...
...singers.

I'm sure they can go back 20 years to play Garbage or Hole. I'm sure they can find obscure indie bands on Youtube. I'm sure they can rock-up covers of Katy Perry or other current pop singers. But popular, current, female-fronted rock bands? Few and far between.

Another vote for Grace Potter here. I saw her perform at the Love for Levon concert, and she was amazing!

I'm not sure if you've got a decent male singer in your band, too. If you do, there's some great male/female duet singing by The Civil Wars.

KT Tunstall had a couple of pretty big songs. "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See" were pretty notable tunes.

Aimee Mann is without a doubt one of the better singer-songwriters of our time. Is she rock, per se? Not sure.

From a pure rock standpoint, The Donnas are awesome. And they're definitely cut from that Joan Jett cloth.

Norah Jones had something of a rock hit with the song "Happy Pills" over the past year. She and Danger Mouse really delivered with that one song.

+1. Thanks for the tips, guys.

As a reminder I did say "popular". i.e., songs that many in the audience immediately recognize after a few opening bars. I realize this a tall order - it seems that most of the recent hard edged female vocalists are either obscure or are doing what passes today for "country".

I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Invalid Link Removedhas some really great material. Having said that they do utilize keys and male backing vocals so may or may not be a fit for your band.

Invalid Link Removed is an up and comer whose tunes I enjoy. Sounds like early Sheryl Crow (to my ear).

Speaking of which, Sheryl Crow has some pretty good tunes as well.

Best Coast is another female fronted rock band making a name for themselves. I don't care for them quite as much as the others I've mentioned but they can be somewhat catchy I suppose.
