Recommend a 1x10 combo

I'm looking to replace my old 1x10 40 watts combo.
(Its a Fender Bronco; I'm tired of the weird controls).

Local store has an Ampeg, an Acoustic, and a Fender Rumble. 1x10s. Was thinking to try them all out for tone.

Any others should be on the list?

I'm also intrigued by the Gallien-Krueger. Should sound better. Not as many bells and whistles though. A nice thing about the GK is it's expandable with powered cabs in case I need more volume somewhere someday. Not sure that's possible with the others.

Another thing is the Fender has a low mid control at 280 Hz, bass at 80 Hz. The GK has low mid 250 Hz bass 60 Hz. I like the idea of using these frequencies to tame the low bass while bumping up the upper bass/low mid to increase the bass's clarity in some situations.

What are you using it for? At home only? Jam/rehearsal? Small gigs?

I have a Rumble 100 (12”) and I love it. It’s “expandable” in that I can daisy chain a second 100 to it thru the FX loop. The 40 doesn’t have the FX loop though.

I had a BA 108 v1, great little amp. Only sold b/c I wasn’t using it, but I got many good years out of it. However, looks like on the v2s- only get a line out on the 115, line out/extension cab on the 210.

My local store has a GK MB 112 ii, and I like it more and more every time I try it. Similar warmth and grit of the Ampeg and Fender, but just a little more clarity and punch. Seriously considering getting one of the MBs

I hate to see a combo amp that isn't sufficient to cover playing in most standard rock music ensembles (read: electric guitar player and a drummer with sticks). To me, a 110 combo wont rise to this challenge. To me a combo amp should at least get you by in this scenario. Not a loud band. Maybe it's even a quieter band. But it should at least do this. If it can't, it's a practice amp. And to me a practice amp should at least be a back up amp for when your gig rig suddenly fails. A 110 combo isn't going to be that for me, which is why I would never buy one.

Now a 112 combo... now you're starting to get into the right territory.

Thanks, all.

Well, I am replacing a 40 watt 1x10 so not so worried about enough volume. The current seems fine - practice solo, or with acoustic guitars. Yes I know I'd need something more for rock band volume. (I used to have a Peavey head and 2 2x15 cabs!).

The GK MB110 is 100 watts and with their powered MBP112 sounds like it would cut it for rock scenario. But I don't need all that presently !!

Not so concerned about volume anyways but was thinking of tone and features. Maybe they all sound near the same.

I own the Ampeg BA110v2 and I love it! I did a side by side comparison with the Rumble 110 and preferred the Ampeg. YMMV

Not that anyone asked, but I've also seen major manufacturers sell bass combo amps with a single 8" driver in them. In my experience these are a sham. A 110 at least makes the sound of a bass guitar, even if it can't do so at high volume. A single 8" driver does not make the sound of a bass guitar even at quiet volumes. These amps should be illegal.

The Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10t is great, although a bit harder to find these days. One advantage that the shuttles have over most combos is that the head is easily removed for use with bigger cabs. Even still attached to the combo you can add a speaker cab. Stand-alone it hung just fine in a 3 piece rock band I played in. Has kickback, aux in, fx loop, mid sweep, treble and bass boost. Fully featured amp. Not a toy lime many small combos.
