Recommend a Good Compressor?

So i've come to decision that im gonna buy my first pedal, and as you probably guessed, im planning to get a Compressor. I've only tried the MXR compressor which did do the job, but i didnt think it sounded very good ( probably because i was using so LTD bass at this really bad music store ) anyway what other brands should i look out for when buying a compressor? do they all do the same function?

ask the InterGoogles to show you Bongomania's compressor review page and all of your questions will be answered. (He's done a realllllly good job!)

good luck!

figure out what it is you really want to do with the compressor. it will then be easier to choose a particular model. I can recommend the Diamond bass comp. mild compression for smoothness and adds a nice phat/ rich fullness to my sound. however, If you're after a very transparent model or hard core limiting this is not it. As previously noted see Bongomania's reviews and learn about comp's.

Boss LMB-3 Bass Limiter Enhancer. Just don't use the Enhance knob if your bass is noisy. And no, it's not a limiter, the ratio can go from 1:1(no compression) to ∞:1(limiter)...and BTW it's cheap used.

Try an EBS MultiComp...really nice comp pedal.

Mxr bass comp, great box

I probably spoke too soon (sorry, bored at work and desperate to talk about something interesting). The Super Comp sounded terrible to me, but MXR in general is pretty good. I just googled the MXR bass comp, and it definitely is worth trying. It actually has the proper controls (attack, release, ratio, input, output) and a gain reduction meter. All these features are key to using a compressor properly.

Cheap, indeed, but it didn't work for me. Seemed to affect the highs oddly, bringing in an unnatural mechanical sound. I recommend the MXR Bass Compressor.

Worth knowing that they are totally different circuits inside too--the only things they have in common are the brand, and the size of the box. :)
