Recommend a new bass guitar for me pls!

hi,

I used to play guitar and then bass guitar but that was a long time ago and now I have some free time to start playing again and learn things from scratch.

I want to buy a Bass guitar but I don't know what? My budget is around 200 UK pounds and since it's not a lot of money I'd like a bass that can be used in wide spectrum of music genres, preferably in rock and reggae.

Please help me out here.

thanks

Not sure what basses would cost in the UK so I can't really make a specific recommendation. however, if your budget is only 200 pounds then I'd definitely suggest the used market. You'll get a lot more bass for your money that way.

Why not do a little research and post a list of what is £200 or less, and let the forum make recommendations?

Sounds like $300 USD and there have been a number of threads on here about that so do a search on that mark. My recommendation is one of the new Ibanez ATK's that were being cleared out from Musician's Friend for around the $200 USD mark (and are being resold around the $300 mark in the classified here). It is as good as many other more expensive basses. Many here will also recommend any number of used basses and in truth, there are a lot of viable options and some of that depends on what "look" and "sound" you are trying to achieve. So, what kind of music are you interested in playing? Do a search on my moniker, ndabunka, and you will find threads similar to your interest. I am also re-entering the bass world from being away for over 35 years. My 14 year old son took up bass with a 5-string G&L L-2500 tribute ($400USD) and I bought one of the 4-string ATK300's recently. Good luck with your search and enjoy the ride...

hi. thanks.
I did a lot of research and i came across a few bass guitars but since i don't know much about the sound that i can get i am getting confused. for example, epiphone EB-0 and thunderbird, Ibanez GRS180,GRS 200,RBX170, Peavy millennium 4bxp, Cort Action4 , Washbutn T14, Dean edge 1,IQ,09M and others

D'OH! Started to write a response a while ago and my iPod battery went so I lost the post!

I'm in the UK, unfortunately for us in bass terms £200 is $200 USD

I would deffo suggest looking second hand. Depending on where you are based I have personally had good experiences from the bass centre in London and electro music in Doncaster.

Only go with eBay if you can find a local seller who does not mind letting you pop round to try it out

For 200 quid you may well get something half decent new too. I would look at the peavey Millenium 4 or 5 or yamaha rbx or even the new bass collection basses from the bass centre look pretty good (although i have no experience of them)

If you try your hand at buying new online I would recommend GAK and Anderton's Music

I guess it not only depends on what money you have but what type of bass and what you are putting it through. There have been quite a lot of good combo amp bargains on eBay recently I notice and I just acquired a nice laney for my godson
