Without knowing your max budget it's a difficult to know what you would be happy with. I would normally have recommended the most expensive Yamaha BB within your budget, but you didn't want another Yamaha. Maybe a Sire? They are amazing instruments that (in my opinion) outperform many instruments that cost 2-3 as much. But it depends on your max budget. If you can spend $3000 or more you're probably not looking for a Sire.

Not too long ago a friend of mine had Kiesel make a 5 string P/J. I think it was just south of 2k. Very nice bass.
Maruszczyk will also make one for you. Many options.

I love my Kiesel Midern J P/J. Unfortunately the Modern J is discontinued and It’s active. But Kiesel has a few models that might tic off some boxes for you.

I was looking for a good 5 string PJ for a long time. Then I found a Mike Lull PJ5 on Ebay and haven't looked at another in the last 14 years.

The Sire p7 can be switched to passive, which is how I played it. Best sounding 5 string bass I ever owned. Weight was it's downfall.

I had a bb235, sounded and played great also, way above it's price point. Again, not a light bass. But very nice, I can only imagine the higher models are even better?

I'm in the market for a new bass.

Must-haves:
- 5 strings
- P / J pickups
- passive electronics
- not a Fender, Squier, or Jackson
- not an Aria IGB-STD (already have one)
- not a Yamaha (already have two)
- preferably a FSO (Fender-Shaped Object)

Price is a consideration, but I'm willing to pay for what I get.

I also listen with my eyes a lot, too. If that means anything.

Any recommendations?

MTD Kingston LK5. 32” scale, asymmetric neck. Great bass with thumping B string. You can find them at BassCentral and there are some on Reverb.

Arn't we bad at reading the exact requirements, this one is obvious vs the title, looking for a 5 string. I noticed he's loaded up on Yamaha, but I erred in seeing the wanting a FSO as not wanting an FSO, because who needs Another FSO, (apparently people want to conform, not be judged or especially like the old classic shape) but which my recommendation of Reverend is not.
As for multi scale, I understand that a longer lower strings are of benefit, but have I tried one? No, neither have I tried tightrope walking or sky diving and don't need to. Looking at them makes me dizzy.

I apologize for using your example to make a joke please forgive me. Preferably indicates a preference. I did follow the link you provided and didn't choose to go into their stock to find a five, not when I'm U.S. and it's showing pounds sterling. Yeah--no Yamaha BB, because I already have two. One of which is a BBP in Moonlight Blue (not Midnight Blue--Moonlight is much more beautifuler).
No Fender/Squire/Jackson, simply because I already know about them. Matching headstock is a plus. (Which is my main gripe about Fender. Beautiful Dark (K)Night color, ugly orange headstock.)
No multiscale, because I'm a pick player and it's hard to palm-mute the multiscale.

Less knobs = good. Prefer volume-balance-tone.
That's my main gripe with 5-strings, they tend to be over-engineered with too many knobs and switches and doo-dads.

Budget is....don't know. I'll get what I pay for, and pay for what I get.

I really liked that jazz-shaped PJ. Might have to look harder at that one.

wow I sure can! Weymouth (pronounced Waymuth) was in bike riding distance up to age 12 when we moved North! That "California", out of stock, has an interesting PU positioning; the j is far enough away from the bridge to not sound like a ping-pong ball (brittle) and only 6.6 lbs! This is how to pronounce California

Is a bass with an active/passive switch an option or do you want it to be totally passive? Because that is going to really limit your options. You could always get an active bass and remove the preamp... That would be pretty easy to do on the Sadowsky, just replace the 4 knob control plate with a 3 knob version.

Active/passive is okay, as long as there's an option to totally bypass the preamp.
I didn't know you could change a 4-knobber to a 3-knobber. I thought that, at best, one of them would be a "producer knob".
