Recommend me a Jazz w/ Block Inlays

Those are some pretty harsh words though, I do understand where you are coming from, but I meant MIM not MIJ, as I would have said CIJ.

And to the OP, you're "lack of product knowledge" even now is confusing. There is such a thing as MIJ. Google it, wikipedia, search through threads here. MIJ and CIJ are both terms for Fenders from Japan. I will let you look up the various comments and thoughts on them.

Anyways, with that out of the way, just go to GC and play through any bass you think looks cool, and then buy it wherever you can find the right price for you.

And i would be more comfortable getting a MIA jazz from fender than a geddy which is made in japan if i remember correctly? I don't know

Yeah, it was made in Japan, but IMO it plays easily as well as an MIA. And the pickups are MIA for what it's worth

Lakland Darryl Jones skyline series. 4 or 5 string Passive bass with block inlays and the fastest neck I have ever played. I got mine for around $1000 new. If you do a search you'll find some good pics.

Sorry to Japan friends. Didn't know there was so much controversy between MIA and CIJ.

Even if I thought MIA was better than CIJ so what? Which I don't. I just said I'd be more comfortable getting an MIA instead. This is because its what I know and its always been what I've known as far as quality.

Okay, I'm going to go against the grain and say not the Darryl Jones. I had one and I don't really consider the neck to be "fast" at all. It's thicker than a Fender Jazz neck.

My suggestion would be to go with Warmoth since they make some really nice parts. I've bought a couple of guitar bodies from them and they were perfect. Plus if you go the Warmoth route, you'll have a bass that's more unique. Not a clone of something that millions of other people have.

Lol. I have never in my life seen a lakland at my GC. If only there were a Bass Center where I live.

Dude just buy a body from one of the many builders that supply them. Figure out what pickups you want... tuners.. bridge...

THEN, figure out the specs for the neck you want... how thin, the radius, etc... and have a luthier build you that neck... the EXACT neck you want. Send him the body... the hardware.... have him paint the body. Have him put it all together...

You will have exactly the bass you want and it will cost about 1300. Maybe less if you don't get too zazzy with the hardware and pickups.

I have done this above process a couple of times, if you want more info PM me. The only downside to doing things this way is you have to be patient. It takes 2-6 months for the luthier to complete the work usually.

But there will be no compromises.

If you want to save time pick up a finished body and neck.
Go to a qualified luither and have them assemble it together.

I to have done this several times and ironically my last bass was a block inlay and it came out great for very little money.

For that price, I would just get a handmade Bacchus...

Search "Bacchus bass reviews" on google.
I've only heard great things about them. They look great, sound great and they have very fast necks

I price-spec'ed out a fully custom built Warmoth bass a while back with delux everything - it came to $1600 but that was for the full-on maximum delux J bass (quilt maple top, dye/burst finish/Nordstrands & nordstrand preamp/hipshot hardware, maple fretboard w/blocks)

You could shave a few bucks off of that by doing a simple finish or cheaper hardware and be right in your price range...

Or get a used Geddy and save big bux.

Buy a used Geddy, and get a refin on the body.....you should be well under your price limit and you have your tone monster that is not a black body....

I had several Warmoth necks (over 20 years) and have always liked their fretwork.

They are slightly heavier not only because of the bars but also if you go with something like a heavy ebony board that is .25" think it makes a bit of a difference but I don't think a ton.
I don't think there is anything "skecth" about them.

On that note if you do want a lighter neck then go all parts.

My last parts bass was using an Allparts maple block inlay neck (since Warmoth did not have any), and the I put the whole bass together for a steal (I mean dirt cheap I really lucked out) Under $500 and I really like the Allparts. I will admit was apprehensive at first with the Allparts...but it plays great and has been stable so far.

My Bass came out killer and I will go on record that I would put it up against any high end Jazz bass on the market. IMHO.

I'm a picky b@stard and way prefer to put together something they way I want then stock bass (except with Modulus).

Yeah. Bill Nash uses Allparts necks if it says anything. They're great necks.
