Hi all - I need to get an a/b switch to keep both of my basses plugged in and ready to play. Anyone have a recommendation? Don't need anything fancy, just solid and not expensive

recommendations for a/b switch

I got an A-B box from ebay for £20 like this one, its rugged silent and has an led to let you know which wat the switch is working

I think any good quality A-B box should do the trick... Avoid the fancy ones like "boss" unless you have a very complicated setup.

They are very easy to build. I've built several.

Loop Master makes really good stuff; you can get an A/B pedal from them for ~$40 US. I've also used a DOD 270 switch on my pedalboard for years; it works great.
They are pretty easy to build, if you're so inclined, but you probably won't save much on parts compared to buying a decent used one on Ebay.

check out BOSS LS-2 (Line Selector) .... it can also blend (mix effects loop with clean sound), 6 switching modes, Link Removed
If you have muting tuner in your pedal board then:
1. Hit the mute footswitch as you unstrap Bass 1.
2. Pull cable from Bass 1 as you put it on the stand.
3. Plug cable into Bass 2 as you pick it up from the stand.
4. Hit the mute footswitch (to unmute) as you strap on Bass 2.
Note: I use a Warwick Triple Rockstand so as I put down Bass 1, Bass 2 is right next to it.
Having used a A/B switch in the past I find the above method is as quick to work as using an A/B switch and has the huge advantage of not having two cables on stage to get tangled up, trip up the singer, catch on the Bass Drum tuning pegs etc.

I don't know your exact situation and needs, but I use a Tonebone Bassbone and won't use anything else (and yes, I realize it's probably out of your budget). I double on electric and upright regularly, and having separate volume controls and eq on channel two is a MUST. It allows me to switch at the drop of a hat (and some of my instrument changes are literally one-two seconds) and keep a consistent volume, which makes the soundguy happy.
