Recommendations for dual bass DI

I would like to play two basses through one Direct out to the house system. The two basses have different output levels and tone so I need some control. A simple A/B switch won't cut it (have one, not the answer).

I have seen the Bassbone and some of the Sansamp models that allow settings to be saved but I am having trouble finding anything to try in a store. Anyone have experience with any of these devices?

Typical combination is a passive Jazz Bass with either my Pedulla Buzz (active) or a Kala U-Bass (passive, but high output).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Mike

I use a SansAmp Programmable BDDI which gives me three channels to divide up between my two basses which works great. I had a friend who had one model up from mine (can't remember what it was called though sorry) which was exactly the same tone wise (as all BDDI's are), but it had two inputs with three channels for each one, which may suit you even better, though I don't find unplugging and plugging in a lead to be much more of a hassle than changing instrument anyway (though maybe you'd appreciate the extra channels?).

I've heard good things about the Tone Bone (same thing I assume?) though never used one. I would definitely recommend to near anyone though, I love mine.

Thanks for the suggestions. Many years ago these types of devices used lots of compression. I typically don't like much compression. Is this an issue for any of you?

I currently use the original Sansamp Bass DI (the one without any knobs!), so I know that I like that tone.

Thanks!
Mike

Radial tonebone, ebs microbass II, sansamp bassdriver delux are the standard 3 I'd recomend. Tonebone is fairly transprent ebs a bit less so and the sansamp stamps its sound onto your instrument fairly strongly (a nice sound though), all of them nice. There is also a passive Radial JDI for multiple instruments, ive never used the double version only the single unit - completely transparent but not so good with passive basses.

I use a Sansamp bass driver deluxe for just this reason. It has good tone but I do find that I prefer plugging straight into my amp as the Sansamp seems to color the sound in a way I can't get out. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time with it. Still, it is solid and does sound good and allows you to have 2 basses with 3 presets per bass with all kinds of different levels and EQ. Here it is:

Radial Bassbone will work just fine. Used mine to put my Kala Ubass through system without an amp last week and the soundman said it was the best bass sound he's been able to get. Works well with an amp, too. there's a new unit coming out at Winter NAMM Next week -- the Basswitch. A few more features but the company is new, so reliability and such is a question as this point. I hope to get one for review after NAMM, and I'm sure Tom Bowlus from BassGear will be on it too.

Good evening all,

While the company that introduces the Basswitch to the market is new, the Basswitch was developed and is built by Guru Burkhard G. Lehle. The pedal will offer a two year warranty, not only to the first user and a three year warranty to those who register their pedal.

Each pedal is hand assembled by a qualified German Tech, tested and signed individually.

All those that want to test the Basswitch or want to have a closer look are welcome at our booth at Namm

Regards

Jacques

I look forward to checking it out, for sure! I absolutely love my Lehle pedals.
