Recording with a Mackie VLZ into Garageband

I have a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer and a MacBook Pro with Garageband. I want to record multiple tracks at the same time, and have them appear as individual tracks in Garageband. I know that I can use the Mackie as a submixer and send the output as a 2-track stereo signal into the MacBook. But I'd like to be able to record, say 4 tracks into the Mackie, and have it go into 4 independent tracks in Garageband.

Is there an interface that I can use between the Mackie mixer and the computer that will enable me to do this?

Thanks,
Wily

I had the same problem, we ended up going with an M-Audio 1814 Firewire interface. It's a real cool setup, 18 ins, 14 outs (I think). We were able to use our discreet sends out of the VLZ as preamps and grab 10 drum tracks at a time into Sonar.

Good luck with your recording!
