Recovered Pickguards

I wanted to get a new pick guard for a recently acquired Sterling 5-String bass. Originally it had the Gloss Black pick guard, and it showed scratches in the usual places from plucking the D, and G, strings. So I recovered it with a dull "Carbon Fiber Look" vinyl. Does this look cheesy or would you think this is just an aftermarket pick guard?

b. It does look like an aftermarket pickguard.

2c. I like it, and think it looks better than the original probably did.

Looks good. It always drove me nuts how big the guard is on those. Looks like it is covering nice looking piece of wood.

Thanks, it actually looked a little better once I re-strung it.

Morning Beer you are right, I should have taken a picture of it without the pickguard, it is covering a very nice looking wood grain pattern.

I thought that was a quality aftermarket guard until I read the text of your post. It looks outstanding. I'm now considering the carbon fiber look for one of my stingrays.

I did that to a pbass about a year ago, turned out better than expected. much better than the one ply white plastic pg. easy mod.

I got mine off amazon its 3M carbon vinyl wrap, cost about $20.
