red flag prior to auditon...

This weekend I heard about a casino band that was looking for a guitar player. Scuttlebutt was they play one, occasionally two weekends a month and got payed casino rates + casino bene's (room, food, drinks.) So I shot off an email, got the setlist (same ol' same ol' casino dance band stuff) and a link to the band website. There are a couple video clips so I take a listen. The bass player is a funky beast! And the rhythm section has a pocket deep enough to smuggle small children! Score! I have a fairly direct, to the point no messing around phone convo with the band leader and everything seems to be "show up, play the gig, get payed, go home in the AM.

Easy Peasy, right?

I take another look at the website and the name of the band doesn't make any sense to me, so I figure it's just a goof I'm not getting. No worries, as long as the Benjamin's are green, right?

Then I realize it's not a joke. The name of the band plastered all over the top of the webpage is "Copestetic".

wait a second. Copestetic???

Really?

So I message the band leader and ask what's up with the band name?

He replies "It's Copestetic, as in everything's cool and smooth. Just like us; cool and smooth"

They can't spell the XXXXng name of the band correctly on the XXXXing webpage. No one took the time to google a word they had no idea how to spell.

This morning I sent the BL a message saying i regret that after checking my bookings for the rest of the year I just don't think I have to availability they're looking for at the present time.

Five minutes ago I get a return email asking if I can still come to rehearsal this Saturday. They're auditioning a new bass player and were hoping to double up on the guitar and bass audition at the same time. Dodged a bullet with this one. The bass player that I was stoked about grooving with ain't even in the band anymore.

The Beatles wasn't spelled "correctly". They did okay.
Who cares about the name, they get well paying gigs. Do the gig, get paid.

Wow. Admittedly, the bass player thing would bug me a bit, but you're passing on a lucrative situation over a band name? Maybe it's on purpose? I don't get it, but rock on...

Is it possible it's spelled incorrectly on purpose?

I'm with @Stumbo you ain't got no skin in the name game. The band gets the gigs, you get $ and perks, what's not to like? The new bassist could be as nasty as the old one. It's at least worth investigating.

I'm a mediocre player at best, and don't have any casino guests. But I'm a great speller. Would you like to audition for my band?

By the way, I noticed a few spelling, grammar and punctuation errors in your post. In the interests of keeping this light-hearted, I'll refrain from posting corrections.

I'll be off-grid for a few days (music festival). Not including stylistic quirks such as extra question marks, the plus sign and so on, I counted ten errors. I'm hoping that I'll come back to find you've spent your time more wisely than worrying about your spelling mistakes.

One of my favorite bands back in the 70s had an error on the poster. The Band name. "Legend" (Yeah I know)

at the bottom of the poster in beautiful calligraphy..... Leqend (LEQEND).

I noticed it right away , but the posters were bought and paid for out of the band fund. I didn't bother to say anything. 3 weeks later the BL noticed.

Still the best band I was ever in. Glad I didn't quit over it.
