Uh-oh, I was 18 - I'm very old. And had to watch the playoff game in college among a pretty even mix of Sox and Yankee fans. Bucky F. Dent. Bad times.
My sophomore year of college was 1986, and my roommate was a Mets fan. He was so in-my-face about it that I actually found myself rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series.

BTW Haters....Sox are sill destroying the Yanks. That is all.
And, by the by, I told everyone around here that the Sox had too good of a team to write off early in the season.
The Rays might be able to take the Wildcard this year, but winning just doesn't seem like a possibility without any hitting.
The team is starting to gain traction and with Lester and Beckett pitching great at the top of the order, they will be in the hunt all season and a danger in the playoffs if they make it. Lackey has been trick-or-treat lately with yesterday as a prime example of how bad the trick version can be (2 1/3 innings 7 earned runs).
The offense has been better than I expected as most of the folks who needed to make strong comebacks from injury and/or offyears have: Pedroia, Papi, Youk, Ellsbury. They really didn't need Scutaro to bounce back but it has been great watching what he can do when healthy. Even the catching experiment (Salty catching most of the games with Tek as a pretty active backup) seems to be panning out. Adrian Gonzales has been even better than my wildest hopes. Reddick looks like he can play OF in this league so the farm continues to supply one useful player per year. This is the last year of JD Drew's contract so his declining production is not unexpected and not anything to really worry about.
Paps is back strong which helps the bullpen and Bard appears to be over his early season lapses - getting to Bard and Paps continues to be an adventure but the Sox are not alone in that.
Miller has been a successful reclamation project which makes the loss of Matsuzaka, the ineffectiveness of Lackey and the injury to Buchholz tolerable.

Being a Yankees fan living in Red Sox territory I can tell you all the Sox "fans" have been very quiet lately as their beloved Red Sox "dynasty" continues their slide.......not many folks wanting to talk baseball anymore.
