REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

I know I should be over the honeymoon phase by now, but every new PA is a new honeymoon. Just can't stop raving about it.

Thx Peter. Yeah, we had a really good show and backline was supplied so no loading SVT's at 10 pm ;)

BTW, icks wasn't Chris from Muse...he was just posting the pic. But Chris' tech has been on here a few times, so if he sees it, I'm sure he'll answer.

True, I just posted the pic for the REDDI fellows of yours.
As a gear addict, I like to know what Chris uses for his massive bass tones. It's the first time I see him with a REDDI.

I feel stupid now sorry! :help:

I didn't know who Muse was until those 2 REDDIs came in.
One of the guys here at the shop went crazy cause he LOVES the group and he made me look them up and listen to their music.
VERY cool music BUT I didn't know who they were and I had a bunch of question to ask them.

Well NOW I know :D

Oh please, Peter! That was nothing! Let me tell you what I once did to Bob Gallien from Gallien-Krueger (although since Bob's name on here is "rag," it's not entirely my fault ;) ):

Someone asked about hooking two speaker wires from one of his heads to the two inputs on the back of the cab. Bob replied that he never thought about doing that before, but he saw no reason it couldn't work. I replied that I thought it was crazy and I'd sure like to hear it from someone who knew more about amps before I ever tried it. A few hours later, it was pointed out to me who he was.

So back to thoughts of tube rolling...been looking around at different 6N1P's. I found a couple NOS tubes that are available. One is a 1965 triple mica black plate military grade, and I also found some from the 70's. Also saw some from the 70's made in a Russian factory called Voshkod.

I'd like to get some opinions first before I start throwing money indiscriminately at tubes. None of them are real expensive, but you apparently have to buy two of the 1965's for $35 a pair, so I'd like to know for sure it would make a positive impact for that kind of bread. The Sovtek 6N1P-EB that comes with the REDDI sounds quite good to my ears, but I'm tempted to try one or two of these older tubes. Any thoughts?

Like the picture!

On the tubes, yes, 35 dollars is a little more than mad money but this is where people get subjective.

You could look at Svetlana 6N1-Ps as well. It is a better tube and costs 2 to 3.00 more than the Sovtek.....It is a better made tube (IMO) but does it sound better?
Again highly subjective.

I paid 250.00 a tube 500.00 for a match pair for my MP-2A for the EF86.....Did it sound better?
Yes, BUT 450.00 dollars better?...........I couldn't use these for production, otherwise the cost to the customer would be sick!

Another tube phase I went through with EF86s ....there is a compny that makes tubes in the EU and claimed it was military grade......I paid more for it and it sounded like poop.

For 35.00 I would say try it ;>) see if it makes a difference for you.

Jimmy,

Please consider THIS as well.

Why would you get another tube?

1, To hear if there is a difference right?
2, If your main stay is recording THEN I could see spending the money.
3, The differences (and there may be some) will most likely be HiFi and NOT a night/day kind of a thing.
4, You do mostly Live.

Now with all that being said............the choice is, of course up to you.

But in my world where ......if you can improve ANYTHING to the better it's a major PLUS. :D

I was turned onto them by my ex's son....
What i like about them is the Rhythmic, harmonic and counter point in their tunes.. and its still rock...
Kind of like Queen meets Yes, meets Chemical Bros, meets Tchaikovsky...

So many people on TB do the tube rolling thing... There are threads about it.. They all swear that such and such a tube is a night and day difference.. I think they are all crazy... I have great ears with decades in the bizzz and I cant hear any difference between a JJ , RCA and an EH ect to make a difference .. Its all tripe IMO..

Kirk, I used to believe that until Johnk did some tube rolling in his SVT 7 Pro. The differences on the recordings were subtle, but I did hear some difference between the JJ and the Mullard, although I didn't notice any difference between the other NOS tubes he used. So now I've decided that my inability to hear differences in tubes were mostly because I was making lateral moves.

You guys are likely right, though. I should probably just stick with the Sovtek...I think it sounds great in there...just wanted to see what would happen, really.
