my P-15 will be rackable with the H/LPF built inline with the DI. the tone stack will have a balanced out. i can use either output to my board or (bridged stereo) amp. also, i'll have the option of running both outputs to separate amp channels to blend or compare.

i'm trying to budget for a second F115 cab to take full advantage of this setup.
this is something i've been wanting for years. i talked to Mr Broughton about it and he's going to make it happen. i can hardly wait!

Interestingly, the DI out of my old SWR Bass 750 sounds exactly like the REDDI

This and the other thread challenged me a bit. I was a Reddi owner and pretty happy with my results. I had been intrigued by the idea of being able to drive a power amp and get the same tone through my amp as I do DI and have some tone shaping capabilities. Along with this thread is another discussion of the sonic farm and noble. What I ended up doing is getting a Monique and couldn't be happier. I'm running Mo into the power amp in on my V4b and using the DI, I feel I've stepped up the game quite a bit from running the V4b as my amp and Reddi as my DI.

I feel the same way about my Arkham Zephyr. It can cop the REDDI (and even more the P-15) but do so much more as well. I'd love to a/b it with a Monique, but I'm so satisfied I won't spend the coin. I think there was some comparison in a preamp thread, and the Mo and Zephyr were pretty close.
I am on the list for a new P-15 for studio and IEM gigs

Does the 750 have a different preamp than the SM400?
My SM400 seems to have virtually no HPF and is dangerous for high volume use in the wrong hands even with the bass flat.
Your post makes me wonder if it is worth taking out of mothballs and trying again.
The last time it was used, the opening band managed to damage a 2x12 cabinet.

I believe the SM's have a different preamp than the "Bass" models which are the same as the venerable Redhead. I used a HPF with my 750 too. That said, the DI matches the REDDI in direct mode (no pre).

I think the Zephyr (wet) DI sounds pretty close to what's coming out of the lo-z out.

The Zephyr also has the low/mid/high/HPF switches and the Range knob, all of which are very well voiced and useful. Best tone I've ever had.

Alright here is the run down.
DI 1 is the P Bass directly into the machine via 1/4 inch instrument cable.
DI 2 is the REDDI with the level knob turned 3/4 up.
DI 3 is the Broughton P-15 with the bass boosted, treble a hair passed noon and the volume is a hair passed eleven.
DI 4 is the Broughton P-15 with the bass, treble and volume at noon @sratas

Jazz Bass
DI2 is the REDDI
DI3 is the Broughton P-15 all controls set at noon

Since I did not provide any guesses before, I will now say that this is EXACTLY what I predicted LOL

I'm coming to this thread late. Haven't read much beyond this point yet (there are nine more pages for me to catch up on). Like nshuman, I didn't provide any answers before the big reveal, but I will in any case claim that I guessed DIs 1-3 correctly. (You can believe that or not. .) Quibble: I wasn't sure what DI 4 was, but was a bit confused going back and forth between the Jazz Bass and P-Bass clips as #4 on the P-bass sounded to me like #3 on the Jazz -- which it looks, from the above, like it is (Broughton with knobs at noon). I'd call the Jazz Bass clips at the top of page 3 DI2 and DI4, for that reason and to keep the nomenclature consistent.

The ringing (more like crickets chirping to my ears) that people mentioned (from aliasing, conversion, or whatever) is audible to me in all the P-bass clips, but they do still provide some nice basis for comparison. Thank you very much for recording them. Volume levels are sightly inconsistent, but, having made a number of imperfect clips, myself, I know that it can be hard to match that exactly (particularly when some clips have different dynamic ranges than others).

All of the clips had stuff I liked and stuff I'd tweak slightly if it were me playing... I'll refrain from commenting more until I've had time to listen and to chew on things a bit more. I know that there are clips of the Arkham Zephyr coming up and, since I have one of those, I'm interested to hear how it compares to the others, here. FWIW (since I anticipate the controls on the Zephyr coming up), I run my Zephyr with the Bass and Treble boosts engaged almost always, and the Mid boost engaged the majority of the time. I rarely employ the built-in Low-Cut/HPF.

Thanks for coming by Mark. DI4 is the P-15 at noon. I just heard some live band mix clips from a show @Dave Hill did with the REDDI, P-15 & Zephyr. They are most definitely different and very noticeable too. I will say that the P-15 sounded the best.

I really like the Arkham unit. Very versatile and full of tricks. I have yet to find a setting that I didn't like on it.
