my favorite is #2 cause I like to push tube power amp flavor to FOH.
Then it's #1 that I like cause it's FOH guy best basis sound (without power amp flavor) to control the sound at FOH effectively

#3 and #4 are of somewhat unique "preshaping" sounding like emulating a speaker cab (or anything else). That's not so bad but different to #1 and #2, and therefore tracks different targets, and goals

So that makes 2 players now... I'm really confused as there are many people on the thread, but not many are willing to take a crack at it? I get it, it's a Saturday afternoon, but considering the strong feelings in previous threads, it's pretty weak IMO to not pony up when a thread like this comes along. It's not completely scientific, but it's a damn good one for what normally goes on here at TB. Not sure I feel that it requires sophisticated listening gear as I heard no benefit between EarPods and very nice headphones as far as telling which one I liked the most, so I'm considering that a bit of a cop out.

The REDDI channel strip was not turned down on the machine that recorded it. They were all set at 0. The "sweet spot" was to weak of a signal in this case. I know it's an old machine but I set all the faders and gain to the same levels. Some just don't put out as hot of a signal as others. This is something one might consider when looking at buying a DI.

It could be interesting to hear the p15 with a bass and treble cut, and adjusting them to achieve the reddi tone balance....just to evaluate two near identical tones except for the individual presentation....we are splitting hairs now, but if it's possible, 10 cc...

After grabbing a set of headphones and re-listening while simultaneously forgetting which was which..

I thought 4 was my least favorite.. just seemed to have a sterility to it that the others did not have. 1, 2 and 3 all sounded great and it was actually hard to pick a favorite. I had to listen to 1 and 2 back and forth a few times to say that I would probably pick 2 over the others mostly because it had the most clarity and I play a fretless P with flats, so I need all the extra clarity I can get.

This last set was definitely harder to pick favorites than the first batch.

you love the REDDI, I get it, but I want to be clear about some confusion because you seem to think I'm saying the REDDI isn't as good as the p-15, perhaps I worded my posts wrong but the p 15 was my least favourite out of the first clips (I haven't listened to the others yet).
My preference of the first clips in order is 1, 2, 4,3

But I was underwhelmed by the REDDI. You say it wasn't recorded using its sweet spot. If it's that easy to get a 'so so' sounding signal from the REDDI then I'd rather stick to the Di out of my amp.

This is not aimed directly at you but it's funny that whenever someone does one of these threads how the recording methods always gets called into question when someone's favourite brand doesn't fair well

Wasn't able to get to a decent listening environment until now. I didn't love 3 or 4. I really like one and two, maybe I prefer 1 but both are very good.

Seeing the results were posted I hadn't revisited the thread hoping to avoid a spoiler alert. I am surprised the direct tap off the SVT wasn't better, I've had a v4b for a while and keep considering tapping my countryman into the speaker out, don't think I will bother. Never heard of the arkham and don't think I will give it any thought

I used my Reddi at church today with no amp and was very pleased. I am still going to get a P15 as I have been convinced that I may be able to make good use of the extra features.

To be fair, the Arkham was set flat with the the HPF on, and can be eq'd to sound much more like the DI boxes. It's obviously vastly more versatile than the DI's. We threw it in because it's also B-15 based, and, well, it was sitting here, lol. We should have eq'd it a bit, at least engaged the Hi switch, which really brings it to life.

Here it is with the Lo and Mid switches engaged:



Still not on par with the DI boxes IMO, but like I said I can get pretty damn close with the eq. It's closer to the grit of the P-15 than the sweetness of the REDDI.

It fared well against other pre's here:

All of the signals were recorded into the same input. Then routed out to different channels. So everything went into channel two input then assigned to different channels. All the levels of each channel were set the same at 0. If turning the level up on the REDDI doesn't affect the tone (which is doesn't) then why does it even matter if it's set at ten or three? I'll tell you why, because if I'd a tracked it at ten then you guys wouldn't here it as good. I really don't think this matters. I tried to make this as even as I could.
I've listened to them all on many different speakers, different headphones and in many different locations. I've also plugged these DI's directly into two different powered speakers and the tone(s) sound the same as they do on everything else. I can hear the differences in all of them on everything.

I still believe DI4 sits on top. I also know that with a P-15 or an Arkham or SVT speaker tapped can be tweeked into the tone of a REDDI. So why not just get a REDDI then? Because like I said I like DI4.

  • REDDI - $800 new. One tone. One output.
    P-15 - $450 new. That one tone and many other tones. Three outputs.

    One small thing is that the REDDI has no handle. Small thing but I have found out upon handling these products as much as I have lately, I really would've liked a handle on the REDDI.

    These are my last words on comparing the two. I'll answer questions if anybody has some other then that I've drawn my conclusion based on first hand experience. Thanks for joining in guys. At least we all seem to like bass and tubes.
