Very well could beI really followed with only passive interest as my needs for an external DI are not that high on any list. But this has made me think of a question. Does a DI lose the D when it is not longer "Direct" , but colored by the interface? Just like an amp head with no "Pre" option.
I'm the same. I'm quite happy to go pre out of my amps Di and after hearing these samples I preferred the first direct recording the most, so no gas for an expensive Di hereI really followed with only passive interest as my needs for an external DI are not that high on any list. Round two:
Why was the REDDI's level at 3/4? In order to get the REDDI's signal to the same volume level as everything else on the machine. I was out of trim (gain) for that channel. All the channels are set at 0 along with the machines master volume (0). I hope that made sense. Old Korg we are dealing with here in mind.1) Ditto on your sound files and playing. Good work.
2) Was also wondering why REDDI was recorded with such a strong signal, when I find unity gain at a board around 10 (11 max) at REDDI output?
3) The preamp issue is of question in this context, as one signal was direct from bass to recording, without some type of preamp boost, while REDDI needed such a strong output boost? What am I missing?
4) Reggie, for a guy with "little (physical) ears," you have such "big (musical) ears."
5) DIs, preamps, basses, whatever. . They are all like paint brushes or typewriters. They are tools used as a means to an end: in this case, making music. However, they are not music, and they do absolutely nothing by themselves.
To turn preferred choice, based on successful user experience, into an extreme win-lose contest between brand A or B, is what most people took issue with in the other thread. Disparaging users, products, and companies to champion something else is highly suspect and typically disingenuous.
In the end, I am very happy for folks that find their sound, regardless of their gear brand. If its P15, REDDI, Neve, Avalon, Ampeg, whatever, great. Enjoy that! Back to making music. .
I've had a blast on this "On The Job Training".wew....good job
I'll play:
n° 2 reddi
n° 3 P15
N° 4 SVT
obviously I have no clue what all this gear sounds like in real life, so I'm curious to learn

True but all consoles and interface pre amps will ad colour as does everything else in the signal path. But the point of the REDDI, p-15 etc is to ad a colour that's pleasing before it gets to these other colours in the signal path. Had these samples been recorded differently I'm not sure whether I'd be any less underwhelmed by the REDDI or any less impressed by the p-15.You, and others, prefer the onboard recording preamp sound, which is likely coloring all signals. .
