Refinishing my zone??

Im in a dillemna. My Fender deluxe zone (mex)'s black finish is terrrible. Ive had it for a year, every little dent, ding and scratch shows like a bad flasher at a football game. :-(
Thinking of sanding off teh finish and sealing it eau naturel.
Can anybody think of pros and cons for doin it?

I can only think of cons for the novice refinisher...

- The chance that there is something attractive under the paint is practically zero

- Removing the thick polyester finish from Fenders is very difficult and a bad job can result in having to do some body repair before painting.

- You won't be able to replace the polyester finish with anything more protective in a consumer grade material.

- Spraying a new industrial quality polyurethane or polyester coating will require special equipment and training to do properly.

That should be enough to scare you. It's certainly possible but you should do plenty of research first. I do my own finishes but I've been spraying stuff for 20+ years and I still don't have all of the techniques down.
