I never play any gigs unless I feel somehow morally and intellectually superior to the people in the audience.
I don't get out that much.

gigslut said:There's another smoking thread in the Off topic section. There are people in that thread (who have also chimed in here) who would defend that Fwit parent's rights to do just that. One even (half) jokingly challenged my description of a car as an "enclosed space", citing OSHA's definition.
Again with the obvious, not too many bands are going to be interested in a bass player who refuses to play ANY type of venue, much less any smoking venue.
That's a cheap shot.
And if you're going to take cheap shots you should have the common decency, as well as the honor, to mention in the OT thread that your over here belittling the opinion of those folks.
And you ought not mince words to fit you own personal anti-smoking agenda.
You said a car was a confined space. Yes, confined not an enclosed space. I joking cited the CFR defining what a confined space is to be funny. You obviously missed that attempt at humor. Clearly if I know the CFR I also know that it applies to the work environment and not to the private sector as far as enforcement of procedures and OSHA is concerned. But that doesn't change the fact that the definition of a confined space is still that...the definition of a confined space. And since your being such a stick in the mud, a silo is most likely a permit required confined space due to engulfment and probably mechanical hazards amongst others such as combustible dust particles. I don't know...you neglected to further describe your comparative counter-argument example. And while you stick by your opinion that a car is a confined space, you should show us all how you just enter a confined space (automobile) willy nilly without due regard for your or your passengers safety.
And on top of it all, I agreed with your position on smoking in the car. So don't lump me into the few that said smoking in the car with that kid is the father's constitutional right. That the kid could just as well walk. I did not say that nor implied that.
In fact most of the discussion, barring a handful of odd ball comments, was geared to the kid taking his fathers pledge to quit WAAAAY to personal and looking for approval for his erroneous way to handle the situation. But thanks for altering THAT discussion and allowing THIS thread to think we are a bunch of nut jobs.

As I said in another thread...how would you like it if I came and stood next to you and farted for 10 minutes straight, every 30 minutes? I bet something would be said.

ZACTLY!!!!!I would just relocate. If the bar was a place that lots of farters liked to hang out, I wouldn't go there. The LAST thing I would do is start a campaign to outlaw farting in public.
However, if I were a frequent farter, we would get along fine. At least, that is, until some Fart Nazi came around, not even wanting to be there, telling us we can't FART!!!
(Oh, and remember, I'm a non-smoker)
You didn't mention having asthma or any medical condition.
I just have to ask- couldn't you just bring a fan to the gig?

Oh.... and you're drinking at a bar.... consuming alcohol... and your going to tell me about a healthy lifestyle? Get over yourself
The smokers that get all defensive about it don't want to admit that their smoking affects everyone around them.
Regarding the fan, even if you're not a smoker, do you honestly thing a fan would serve any kind of useful function in this equation?
Yes, or I wouldn't have posed the question.
Enlighten us to how this will effectively alleviate the OP's problems. There are some of us who understand airflow very well and seem to be unable to see the solution that you see.
