Regarding Ampeg

A PF115he for a cab if you're looking for a good sounding cab that's not too big and will take some punishment. Finally got to play one today. Sweet sweet cab! Very B-15-like. Even the tweeter sounded good and I don't like tweeters.

Really, it's hard to go wrong with anything Ampeg's making these days.

Cheers man, that's only the head right? If it's going to be $399 for the head alone, plus I don't know how much for the cab, it's going to be far cheaper to go with the BA300 right? I don't think I'm going to need more power than 300W
BA300 is $650 for the 115, $750 for the 210. A PF500 and a PF115HE or 210HE is $800. And a PF350 (350w) $100 cheaper. And if you get them on sale, you can do even better. So pricewise, it's not a whole lot different.

Ahh okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm more inclined to go with a combo rather than a cab/head as I feel more comfortable. As I'm based in England, it's always going to be more expensive for me. However, I'm going to sunny (touch wood :P ) Florida again in Easter (Hopefuly picking up an EBMM Stingray or one of the New Fender Jaguars) so I'll try out a load of different amps over there, see what's best and make an informed purchase when I'm home (I don't want to buy in the US and have to start messing around with transformers etc)

For now though, it's 03:15 am here, and I'm very very tired, please keep contributing though, this has been ridiculously educational for me so thank you and good night! :bassist:

If you like combos, no problem. The cool thing about a PF rig is you can make it a fliptop combo easily by bolting the PF head to the lid of the PF cab. You flip the lid over when it's not in use and it protects the head, and you flip it out when you want to play.

Also, the PF heads have a switch on back for use with European voltages. No futzing with transformers necessary.

We'll try to give you good weather when you come back down here at Easter, but I can't guarantee it. Weather's been pretty rainy today.

Not only am I in England (More expensive for most things), but I'm in a tiiiiiiiiny island (4x9 miles) with one music store, so there's no way for me to try out stuff :atoz:

Tiny (4x9 miles) island with only one music store? I live on an island that is 1 x 1/2 mile and doesn't even have a grocery store! You're on a huge megalopolis!

:smug: :)

I prefer the easyness of combos, but I'd love to be able to 'have a rig' ;) . That flip thing sounds cool, it's like the 'all in one' ness of a combo but with the versatility of a cab and head - melikey! :D

Ahh man, that sounds so easy to do actually, I wish everything I bought in the States had that!

You're so lucky to live there man! Florida's my favourite place on Earth. Bar maybe Uluru (Ayres Rock) in Australia. Me and my familiy go down to the Keys on a yearly basis, do some fishing etc. It's only this Easter I came that I was looking for a bass (I started bass april 2010) and dayum things are cheaper here. Simply had to buy an Ibanez that was the equivalent of $200 cheaper here than back home.

Hey man, if I'm thinking of the right place, that's like off North East USA right? I've heard you got some beatiful geography over there? Surely you can take a boat to a music store (or, less importantly, a grocery store ;) )?!?

I'll just say this. The Ampeg BA300 combo's claim big wattage, but do not allow for adding any additional speakers to them. The speakers that come with the combo, 2x10, or 1x15, will not be able to utilize all the power available- and in order to "get louder", you NEED more speakers. Conundrum. Therefore, it is ALWAYS a better idea to get a head with one cab to start, and add another cab later when you realize how little volume you'll get from one. Buy once, cry once, is how the saying goes. Once you lay the money out for the combo, you're done. Cannot expand. Better to have more than enough than not quite enough. Best of luck to you.

+1 to that.

I've done a ton of trading up. It's worth it to invest wisely from the start. You'll save in the long run.

So if I bought This and This originally, if I found it wasn't cutting it, could I buy This and use it with the other two? Or do you have to replace the old cab with the new one? I guess what I'm asking is: Can you have multiple cabs leading into one head?

Yes you can have more than one cabinet as long as the amp can handle it. If an amp will take an 4 ohm load then you can run two 8 ohm cabinets or a single 4 ohm cabinet. Don't get the B2re head. From what I have heard it is rather hit and miss on quality and tone. The PF-350 or PF-500 heads are a much better bang for the buck, put out the same or more power and weigh much less!

Start with this:[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Then add a second cabinet if needed.

Looks that way. The amp has only 1 Neutrik speaker out so you would have to be able to run a 2nd cab daisy-chained from the first cab. I could not tell if the cab was wired for a pass through for a 2nd speaker though they usually are.

There are 2 1/4" outs on the amp so you could do it that way. They work fine, I just prefer Neutrik myself.
